Just Pick a Freakin Color!

October 6th, 2006 @ 11:52 am by Mrs. Lily

“Just pick a freakin color, already!” I’ve been telling this to myself for months (I feel that Mr. Lily has been ESPing it to me too). I’ve been through every color combo possible in my head and swayed backwards and forwards over which ones I like and which ones I’ve hated.

About two weeks ago, we came up with the “final” color combo. I loved it, Mr. Lily loved it, My Mom didn’t hate it… VOILA! So why did I wake up this morning worried about my colors? Seriously, what’s wrong with me? There should be a name for this disease. Colorchoiceaphobia or something.

OK, so here’s the general idea: seagreen bridesmaid dresses with a charcoal grey ribbon for the ceremony with ivory bouquets. For the reception, the linens would be an ivory undercloth with a charcoal grey topper and seagreen napkins (with some sort of grey ribbon tied around each one) and white centerpieces. Below you can see our “color trials” for this combo (FYI the bridesmaid dress color is the swatch on the bottom right and the napkin is a sample I got from a linen rental place– the rest are Mr. Lily’s clothes, hee hee).

I think the combo is very beautiful and elegant. I guess I started to worry this morning that the whole thing might be too grey and that the seagreen color is hard to match. I want to do pomanders at the ceremony, but how on earth will I found a flower to match that green? And I want to do a candy buffet, but a quick look at some candy sites shows lots of lime green or dark green candy, but no seagreen. Grrrr. I have issues!

love it! and the seafoam doesn’t have to be matchy matchy. it could just be generalization of the color. for the candy- what about those dinner mints? the soft ones..

I think it looks great - very elegant and appropriate for an April wedding. And a variation of color for the candy buffet (a range of greens & whites) is, I think, more appetizing than all the same color.

I wouldn’t worry about the green candy. Different shades of pale green will work.
Here are some knotties featured before. Check out their greens and candies.

Beautiful scheme. We’ve run into a similar problem with our green - which is chartreuse. All the chartreuses out there vary quite a bit, so we’re just going with the flow and selecting a range of shades in that color.

Just try to keep in mind no one is going to have color chips and walking around your wedding compairing shades of blue or gray. So long as the colors are close it will look great.

Plus for the candy bar, if you can’t find candy wrappers in colors you like you could always buy paper that matches and rewrap stuff in colors that do match.

Your colors are unique and that is great. :)

maybe for the flower pomanders and candy, do all white. it’s a crisp, elegant look that will complement your blues and greys well. i love your color scheme!

Thanks everyone! I’m hoping to find a few items in the seagreen color (like for the pomanders and candy) to perk up the room. It’s just a regular ballroom so I think it needs a bit of color injected. If anyone sees these things, let me know pretty pretty please! XOXO

don’t know if you want to go the m&m route:

there’s cream & grey & maybe aqua may work? dunno.

You could do ivory pomanders with green or grey ribbon to hang them. You could also do green and white candy (have you looked at the bulk candy websites?) and tie green and grey ribbon around the jars and set them all on a table covered with green/grey fabric. I think these touches of color will add a lot to your space while being easier to find! Good luck.

i like the colors. I was actually surprised they go well together. I wouldn’t have given this color combo much thought.

i love the color combo. the charcoal is a nice way to balance the green and it is also quite different from what i have seen at other weddings (which i think is a bonus).

i am a big fan of the sweatshirt table cloth!
