I went totally gaga for this layout when I saw it in the most recent issue of Martha Stewart Weddings (which was an exceptionally good issue overall I might add). Minhee Park and Truman Cho were fourth grade classmates but didn’t start dating until fourteen years later. When they went home to California from New York for Christmas last year, Truman proposed in front of their old elementary school.
They had 5 months(!) to plan a retro school themed wedding at the Fullerton Arboretum, where they once went on a school field trip. Minhee is the genius behind Papercup Design (which we love, love, love!) so she designed letterpress invitations, maps and rsvp cards on vintage notebook paper and asked guests to indicate who was coming on attendance reports.
The wedding party poses for a “class photo” with the traditional letter board. The fun socks are a tradition they do for every friend’s wedding.
A teacher’s desk holds apple placecards.
A chalkboard polaroid photo station where guests wrote customized messages.
Dinner was served in vintage cafeteria style lunch trays with the couple’s names stamped on the wooden utensils and napkins. Each place setting was outlined in chalk on black paper. Brown paper lunch bags had custom school supplies as favors.
This is one of my all time favorite Martha Stewart layouts! It’s just too darn adorable.

thanks, i could have looked it up- i’m lazy i guess. i’ve got to get it! this is probably one mag. i’ll continue to buy every so often even after the wedding planning is long gone.

That was one of the few things I liked in that issue. I wish they had more weddings featured per issue

what a great concept! that’s a great way to make a wedding stand out. that makes me want to make my wedding that unique.
i’ve been a fan of paper+cup for a long time time & was thrilled to see it in MS, also! i love how this wedding really used a personal and unique theme & integrated it into everything.
omg, every detail of the wedding is so creative. i love how they incoporated their retro school theme into their wedding. so genius.

I loved it! I’m a teacher and although a little over the top for FI and I, it certainly helps the creative juices flow! I lvoe the chalkboard photo backdrop. Hilarious!
Corney, I thought the idea was good but it just didn’t cut the mustard for me. The blackboard would of been better if it could of had a posterboard with permanent markers so the couple could of saved it. Cute but I would have done it different.

such a cute theme. i too wish MSW featured more weddings, at this point I am trying to decide if I will renew because I kept receiving a 20pound book of advertisements.
