Vow To Be Fit

October 6th, 2006 @ 2:51 pm by Mrs. Bee

You may have seen the Vow To Be Fit ads that have been running on weddingbee. Rebecca, a friend I met earlier this year through the wedding circuit, has been raving about this diet for quite some time. But I’m a very lazy skeptical person so I was reluctant to try it at first.

Since getting married, I have been a victim of the newlywed 15. I’ve gone up 2 sizes and most of my clothes don’t fit anymore. :( It doesn’t help that I sit at a computer all day and hardly ever move. Well with my birthday coming up this month, I decided that I needed to lose the weight once and for all.

Today I received my Vow To Be Fit 9 day program - I figure I can stick any program out for 9 days. I’m going to start it on Monday (because I’m still getting over this neverending cold), and will record my progress. I will even tell you *gasp* my weight! 8O

These are some before and after results of Rebecca’s friend (and fellow skeptic) that she shared with me yesterday:

Starting Weight: 151
3 Day Weight: 146
10 Day Weight: 141
Lbs lost = 10!!!!!

Starting Inches: 309.5
3 Day Inches: 301 - Lose of 8.5 inches
10 Day Inches: 291.5 - Lose of 18 inches!!!

Before BMI: 19.3
After BMI: 18.02

I won’t be posting before and after pictures of myself (I’m not that brave), but I do promise to share all my stats. I hope I can lose at least 5 pounds!

OOOOOOO OOO OOO I’M SO excited for you!!!! I did the 10 day regimine (from Tony Robbins) Same thing as you’re going to be doing. Me & mike did it. He lost 9 pounds in 7 days-a healthy 9 pounds. I didn’t lose any but I lost mucho mucho inches. I wasn’t bummed I didn’t lose weight but happy I lost inches and my body felt soooo much better. (Other people I know who did it lost weight, I just have a diet defect!)
The first 3 days are hard. But it’s sooo worth it. I sound like an infomercial. geese.
Yay for Mrs.Bee! -even though you’re still a skinny minny!!

Hi Mrs. Bee, I don’t see a beehive post today but I wanted I have a general question I wanted to ask. How much are you supposed to tip the esthetician after getting a facial? Is it like dining–15%-20%?

Here are 2 articles for you, I researched the diet to make sure it was for real when I did it….

But wait, I thought a BMI below 18.5 was underweight?

That BMI must be incorrect. A BMI of 18 or 19 would be model thin. A BMI of 18 is one of the diagnostic criteria for anorexia. At 141 I would guess her BMI is around 25 (can’t tell how tall she is of course).

I really have mixed feelings about diets such as this, and to be honest so much talk of being fat and dieting on wedding websites. First of all, diets that force you to severely restrict calories or take pills DO NOT WORK in the long term. There is no way someone lost 10lbs of body fat in one week, it is not physiologically possible. I would bet that 8 lbs of that is water. My doctoral research is on this topic and we’ve found that teenages that report dieting are more likely to be heavier 5 years later compared to girls who report healthy eating and moderate exercise.

I don’t want to write an essay, although I’m happy to discuss this with anyone interested. Eating well and exercising is important for everyone, and with the right balance, you can lose weight. If you go on dieting binges or expect major results in 1 week, you’re bound to fail.

I’m done! :)

that is true kate - the only way to lose weight and keep it off is to change your lifestyle… eat healthy and exercise.

but when you’re so busy and unmotivated like i am, sometimes you need a little push. losing a couple of pounds will motivate me to keep going and reach my ultimate goal…. through diet and exercise.

You’re right too Mrs. Bee, it feels really good to lose a few pounds quickly, even if it’s just water weight. I just worry about how many brides feel that their day won’t be perfect if they’re not skinny, and then how wedding websites (not yours, but the more commercial ones), play on that insecurity to sell products that don’t work.

I love this site but feel sad how many women make comments about how fat they are.

(BTW: I have lost 15lbs in the past year, motivated by our wedding, so I am not immune to this. I just worry about people who look for quick fixes and may end up damaging their health)

The friend in the pic also has her rib cage lifted up (shoulders back, and up higher). That makes a big difference in how your weight looks. Even outside of weight-loss talk, that’s definitely a reminder to keep good posture for your pictures!

i agree- that BMI can;t be right. in order to have a BMI of 19.3 at 151 pounds, the person must be 6 foot 3 inches. the girl in the picture does not look 6′3″!! Also, a BMI of 18 would be considered borderline anorexic.

Mrs. Bee, please let me know how it goes! I also am suffering from the Newlywed 15. I think it’s now the Newlywed 20. This is much worse that the Freshmen 15.

I am so tempted to buy this because my cousin’s wedding is next week! However I might wait until the wedding is over to try this.

Let me know how it goes!
