I’m back in Kansas City! Left right after my last class yesterday and got into town just in time to go shopping with my mom.
Mr. Blueberry didn’t come with me this time, and frankly I don’t blame him–I would need occasional breaks from me, too!
I spent almost all day today working on my and my MOH’s bouquets. When I left KC last, my bouquet was sort of done (the handle was a couple inches too long) and my MOH’s was done but I wasn’t happy with it. So this morning I was up and at ‘em by 10:30, spread out in my parents’ great room floor with my bouquet, my MOH’s bouquet, two kinds of duct tape, a big tub of wire ties, two pairs of wire cutters, scissors, and of course my trusty digital camera :).
Becca was over visiting with my parents and me, so she helped trim down the handle on my bouquet–we had to go at it one stem at a time, trimming about 3″ off each one–all 652 stems! While she did that, I added some completed stems to my MOH’s so it wasn’t as dinky looking as it had been previously. I don’t know the exact number that hers has now, but it’s approximately half the size of mine.
Then I started fiddling around with ribbon. I have absolutely no expertise with making bows or wrapping bouquet handles, but I’d seen pictures and thought I could manage. Well, that’s debatable by now. I think I figured out the wrapping part, but adequate bows still elude me. So tomorrow I’m going to do some online research to see if I can find some directions, because the bouquets’ current bows, well, they look a little puny.
After Becca left it was me and Daddy Blueberry working on my bouquet handle. He has ginormous strong hands, so he was cutting through 4 or 5 stems at a time, while I had trouble managing one! Needless to say, with his help we got it taken care of in no time flat and I moved on to wrapping its handle. I put one of my half-assed pitiful bows on it but will be re-doing that too.
Here are some pics from today (I feel bad that I didn’t get a pic of Becca helping :():
This is my makeshift bow holder thing (a straight pin sticking up from a piece of cardboard–high tech, I know!). It worked OK but I didn’t like the result, for what it’s worth:

Here’s the finished product, the aforementioned droopy, pathetic bow (not all that impressive, is it?):

My MOH’s bouquet, sans ugly bow (but with the funky-looking bright blue bow, which I’ll also be changing):

Same thing, only with flash. Look how the colors explode (for lack of a better word)!!!

Here I am working on my bouquet:

I finally got mine all trimmed, so then I re-did the wire ties (to hold the thing together), covered it in duct tape (to protect me from the pointy wire ends), wrapped it in an entire spool of blue wired ribbon (to hide the duct tape, of course), and handed it off to Daddy Blueberry to pose for photos.
This is what happens when I say “look demure”:

Cute, huh? lol.
Anyway, tomorrow I’m going to figure out what to do about the bows–I’m confident I can find some instructions online or, if nothing else, ask someone at the floral counter at Michael’s.
Just another day in the life of a DIY bride!
