Baby Bees Part Deux

October 9th, 2006 @ 6:02 pm by Mrs. Bee

I had lunch with a friend today who’s working on a business class project about a baby website. She asked if I could give her the data from a post on babies I wrote a long time ago, when weddingbee was but a little personal blog. This is the transferred post - you’ll see that the first commenter is my mom. It’s the one and only time she’s ever commented on weddingbee, and obviously coincidentally it’s the one about babies. ;)

Before we got married, Mr. Bee and I discussed waiting 2 years to start having kids. But our timeline slowly seems to be getting pushed farther back. We’re both so busy with work and this time we have with each other before kids come into the picture is so great. If I could, I would wait a couple more years from now. But I also don’t want to wait too long because I’m no spring chicken. Time really flies after you get married. The plan for now is 2 1/2 years… but we’ll see. :)

I didn’t have a nifty poll feature when I originally wrote the poll, so I thought I’d repost it.

After marriage, what is your timeline for having kids?

i think within the first year. i’m not getting younger and i definitely know he’s not getting any younger and both our families are already pushing for grandkids (we’re not even married yet!!) but i love kids so i’m definitely ready to start trying after we’re married. i’ll keep you posted when we’re getting married but i think it’s going to be summer next year. =) i’m so busy though w/school i don’t know how i’m going to have time to do any planning! =(

At the very start of our relationship, I told Paul that I wanted kids before I was 30, not that I think 30 is old or anything, but because I want to be a young mom. I turn 27 this november, so we have a (god willing, obviously) game plan: marry next November- three days before my 28th birthday. So, we enjoy married life for a year, and then start trying around our first anniversary (while on vacation?:D) and hopefully get preggers soon after. Yes, I know not everything runs to plan, but this is a loose outline.

There needs to be more options on that poll than 3+ years. How about a 8+ years or a “maybe before I’m 30″ option.

my mom has been the one to tell me to enjoy being married and to wait for kids and constantly reminds me that once i have kids my life is over [my parents started the fam soon after they were married]. me and the bf have already talked about this a lot and we both want to wait. we’re a bit selfish when it comes to being with each other and don’t really know how to share…hence many family and friends being shut out during visits. lol.

plus, my mom already has 4 grandkids thanks to my older sister so she’s set.

Looking forward to being a parent someday. It seems like there is always pressure to do one thing or another though, and I want to make sure we wait until we’re ready to have children - not just expected to. For the last ten years it’s been all about getting an education, then it was all about starting a career, now life is all about getting married. After that it will be all about saving up for a house. I want it to be all about being together for a little while before we take on more responsibility.

i’m 24 now and getting married in february… we plan on having kids when i’m 27-28… but i dont think either of us would miiiind having kids even sooner than that—we LOVE KIDS and cant wait to have ‘em! but for logistical reasons, it’d make more sense to wait a few years :P. and, i’m sure i wouldnt regret really enjoying that time with DH as well :)

i’m getting married when i turn 23 and we’re planning on having kids after a 1 or 1 1/2. so start trying when we’re 24 and the baby will be born when i’m around 25. it’s pretty young, but we want to start young.

Paul and I are planning for an 2009 baby We plan on enjoying our time together this first 2 years and then in late 2008 starting to try for baby number 1. It will give us 2 years to have for ourselves and Ill still be a relatively young mom which is what I want

We’re talking about 5 or so years…that’ll put us at 34 & 35, so we’ll see how that goes. We’re totally down for adoption too, if that ends up being easier.

Andrew & I aren’t having children. In fact, he’s already gotten a vasectomy…about 2 months ago, in fact! :)

On our wedding day, we´ve been a couple (and living togehter) for almost 9 years! So its not live we´ve rushed in to having kids, even if we would like to have the first one maybe 1-2 years after the wedding.

But thats not really fair to compare to couples who gets married after 2 years and then kids 2 years after that…

In Sweden its perfectly normal to live togehter and have kids, and still never marry. Weddings here are more like an optional party, rather then something expected.

i’m 28 already and we both love kids, but we both love traveling too…so i’d like to hold off, but i’m no spring chicken either.
i’m absolutely certain i would like to adopt, but he also wants us to have one…so it shall be an interesting ride.
i can’t believe i’m 28 and still feel too young to have children, tho i know a lot of women from high school who have 4, 5 and 6! maybe it’s one of those things where you always feel too young or not ready until you just do it.

my parents and in-laws certainly made it known that they want us to hurry and have babies right after we got back from our honeymoon…but ideally i’d like to wait until after summer 2008 bc i really want to go to the beijing olympics as my last big vacation. but who knows…a lot of my friends are having babies and they are so cute! :)
