About Mrs. Orange

Ranunculus

October 10th, 2006 @ 2:30 pm by Mrs. Orange

I had originally wanted peonies in my bridal bouquet but in March, peonies are not in season (FYI: Peonies are in season May-June; very short). So I had to come up with an alternative and found this beautiful flower - the ranunculus. I should warn that of the four florists I interviewed, they all commented on how delicate and fragile this flower is. It also does not come cheap.

According to theknot.com, “carrying a bouquet of ranuculus… in the Victorian language of flowers… means ‘I am dazzled by your charm.” With my bouquet made of pale and dark pink roses and ranunculus, Mr. Orange should see that I am “dazzled by his charm, radiant with gratitude and joy.” (The Flower Expert - Flower Meaning) ;)

love the ranunculus! alas, it’s not available for my November wedding.

however–
peonies *are* available at certain times in November (via Chile and for a two week window or so).
i am keeping fingers crossed that it’s an early peony season this year and, thus, they’ll be present for my wedding…!!

I love, love, love these flowers! I had them in my bridal bouquet. My girlfriend is getting married in March - I’ll have to suggest them to her for her bouquet!

Miss Daisy is right- In Nov. our peonies are suppose to be coming via New Zealand.
I’m crossing my fingers too, otherwise it’s Black Magic roses for me.

Oops! Sorry for the error re: peonies season. Yay to all the peonies from NZ and other parts of the world :)

not a prob! you may be able to have peonies flown in, but you’ll usually have to pay a pretty shiney new penny for them!

i LOVE ranunculus. although they are not cheap, they are definitely cheaper than peonies, from my past experience in making DIY mini arrangements for friends and family. although…i got them at farmer’s market prices, which should be close to wholesale (and of course florists mark it up). anyway, thanks for the images! i am thinking of using them as my main flower, so these will come in handy!

Try purchasing the flower from Costco or Sam’s. At Costco, it’s being sold in a variety bunches for 139.00 for 150 stems.

I love Peonies! (Don’t know much about growing them) Why don’t they grow them in hot houses all year round?? That would certainly help us!
