About Mrs. Grasshopper

Pre-Ceremony Photos

October 11th, 2006 @ 11:04 am by Mrs. Grasshopper

For a long, long time, Mr. Grasshopper said he did not want to see each other before the ceremony. I thought that was really sweet, but not as sweet as having photos of us near the bridges in Brooklyn. Because both the ceremony and reception were taking place at the Foundry, we would miss out on the built in time that most brides and grooms have to take photos before the reception. I knew if there was one thing that would get Mr. Grasshopper to change his mind, it would be taking part in the cocktail hour. A few weeks before the wedding, I tried one last time…

Me: Are you sure you don’t want to see each other before the ceremony?
Him: Yes.
Me: That means you will have to take photos during the cocktail hour and miss out on the bacon wrapped scallops.
Him: Ok. I’ll take photos before the ceremony.

YES! So here you go:

Leaving the block party. There were fewer blow up bouncing castle photo opportunities than I expected.

Between the seven of them they were probably already wearing 100 tattoos.

Tuxes
We used Baldwin Formals for the tux rentals. They were so easy. We were in and out in 20 minutes to pick out the tuxes in the Spring. The day before the wedding, the guys went in together, picked up their tuxes with no issues and were out 20 minutes later. Baldwin Formals: A.

It didn’t seem like so much pink when they tried them on indvidually…

Bridesmaid Dresses
I selected Simple Silhouettes dresses because I wanted my bridesmaids to pick out a style of dress they all felt comfortable in and SS offered a wide range of styles, colors and material. Because my bridesmaids were from all over the country, I would make appointments to go to the store with them whenever they were in town so that they could try on the dresses. I went to their store by appointment FIVE different times with my bridesmaids and we were never made to feel like an inconvenience, which was really nice. In the end, 4 out of 6 bridesmaids picked the strapless styles (of varying cuts)! I thought that was hilarious.

My only two issues with Simple Silhouettes were:
1. The dresses were pricier than I would have liked and I felt bad asking the girls to pay that much, but the material was nice and everyone liked them immediately.
2. The Simple Silhouette dresses come in a month before your wedding date, which was sort of late I thought. It was fine in the end, but I think it would be better if you could get the dresses 6 weeks before the wedding- just in case. We had no problems with our order though and the dresses required minimal alterations once they arrived. Simple Silhouettes: B.

Post-photo chaos. Where am I storming off to?

Flowers
Amy from Seaport Flowers was a pleasure to work with and I would credit her as the one vendor with whom I was most confident. She was pleasant, speedy with estimates and revisions, and was unusually proactive for a wedding vendor. We only used Seaport for our personal flowers because we were trying to keep our floral costs low, but the flowers were beautiful and everything was perfect with their service. Seaport Flowers: A.

Sasha! Where did you come from?! Oh, that’s right we asked the dog walker to bring you.
