LA Makeup Artist Jessica Lee

October 12th, 2006 @ 10:33 am by Mrs. Bee

One of the most common requests I get personally and here at weddingbee, is for Asian makeup artists. So I’m always on the lookout for great new artists I can refer people to.

I recently saw Los Angeles makeup artist Jessica Lee featured on VivaLaMonkee’s blog. Jessica is a Korean makeup artist that studied at the Shu Uemura Institute in Japan and the Makeup Forever Institute in Paris. She has been a professional makeup artist for over 15 years working with celebrities and Miss Korea contestants before coming to the Los Angeles studio where she now works.

She has a really nice portfolio of before and afters, and I hear she’s been getting rave reviews from brides to be.

Jessica doesn’t come cheap though - bridal makeup starts at $400 and you have to come to her studio (which is typical in Koreatown).

Have you or anyone you know worked with Jessica? It’d be good to have some place to refer brides to other than Hills and Andre in Koreatown. Judging from her portfolio, her work looks fantastic. A good Asian makeup artist is so hard to find…

JG says:

OMG~That second girl …. looks like 2 different people!

I got my hair & makeup done at Tocco in Koreatown (LA) - it was like 4 years ago, though. I think most of them moved on to Hills Salon.

HOLY COW! this makeup artist is awesome!

jenn says:

YES, incredible transformation but too FAKE! To doll yourself up to the point where no one knows you is a dis-service to yourself. It’s somewhat degrading to yourself. Be proud of your natural features and beauty.

H says:

WOW! the second woman looks great! I realize she looks like a completely different person, but in response to jenn’s above comment. I highly doubt this woman goes out with no makeup at all on a daily basis. And I think thats why she looks soooo different b/c her before has no makeup at all. I think the make up does not look fake, it actually looks like she is wearing minimal makeup. Also you can tell the lighting is a big help in the two pictures, just look at the background.

Jessica is at Hair Day in K-Town right next to the K-Town Plaza. The building is bright orange so you can’t miss it.

I actually got my wedding makeup done by her. And she did a wonderful job. I just hope she doesn’t put my before and after shot on her website.

Wow, that’s amazing!

I second mn’s thoughts. I’m in the bay area too and I’m having trouble finding a great make-up artist. =)

I could never spend that much on makeup, but it definitely looks like she is worth every penny if you can afford it.

wow! that’s amazing. do you know of any makeup artist in the chicago area? im having such a hard time finding one who knows how to work on an asian face.

susie says:

All the women do look really good in their “after” photos. But I’m a little disturbed at how much whiter their skin looks after their makeovers. I think I’d prefer a makeup artist who would stick to my natural skin tone.

Which is why I’m going to be doing my makeup myself for my wedding. :)

katie says:

what the….damn!! they don’t even look like the same person. i would use her but is it $400 for just the bride cuz that seems really pricey.

24.
J says:

OMG! Are those the same people? That is crazy!

Makeup does wonders.

DAMN!! what great makeup jobs!!!

Brides can also try MARQUEE (I think that’s the spelling?). They also do Miss Korea’s makeup and hair there too. It’s located inside Koreatown Galleria in LA.

bay area ladies should try to contact taylor pham–I admire her work, but I heard from another website that you have to book her a year in advance.

http://www.thicosmetics.com

J says:

cinechica, I tried booking Taylor Pham about two weeks ago for my wedding which is not until end of Sept of 2007, and she got back to me informing me she’s already booked for my date! Yes she’s very talented!

30.
cinechica says:

By the way, I’m a freelance makeup artist in NYC myself–if anyone would like to contact me at cinechica at gmail dot com. I can also show you samples of my work.

31.
mn says:

beside taylor pham (talented but booked), do you have other recommendations for makeup/hair in the bay area and how much do they cost? thanks…

32.
Lindsay says:

amazing work!! but her prices seem a bit much.

33.
Julianna says:

Wow~Jessica’s make-up artistery looks wonderful. Are there any recommendations for great make-up artists in NY? pleasse…

34.
Yukirei says:

Wow the second girl looks like a completely person before and after!

mn- I used Masami Rung for my wedding and even my father (who could care less) was impressed with the result. He said I looked like me-but-better-and-very-natural. I do wear makeup on a daily basis but did not want to look like someone else for the wedding (I kinda feel it’s a little creepy for the groom!=P).

Masami is really good with eye shading and suggesting looks and hairstyles by looking at your face/ head shapes.
Her website is http://masami-chic.com/services/main.html. She cost $300 for bride hair and makeup, trial and BM, mothers extra. She’s Japanese and the majority of her brides are Asian IIRC.

Another artist I was *this* close to booking is Nam Vo. Her work is fabulous, but she doesn’t do hair- not in my budget to hire a separate stylist. Her website is http://makeupnv.com/

35.
J says:

Mn, email me at

mskittykawai at yahoo dot com

and I’ll give you some info on the person I’m booking plus some other recommendations.

36.
mn says:

thanks Yukirei for your suggestions. i appreciate them very much. Happy wedding planning!

I’m booked with Jessica this December. Almost all the dress shops I went to recommended her (Hair Day Salon). Photographers in Korea Town also highly recommend booking with Jessica. Her makeup studio is located inside Hair Day on the second floor.

Some other optional salons in K-town are:

Hills Beauty Club
323-465-7400
217 S. Western Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90004

Very roooomy! The salon is huge! Your bridal party will be able to find a seat!

Marquise (K-town Galleria)
323-735-3441
3250 W. Olympic Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90006

Small!! I heard many complaints regarding the size of the salon. If you’re getting married on a Saturday, bring a chair!

Lee Ka Ja Beauty Studio
213-388-6262
3240 Wilshire Blvd. #105 Los Angeles, CA 90010

Tocco
213-388-8292
324 S. Western Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90004

Park Jun’s Beauty Salon (Assi Market 2nd floor)
213-368-0000
3525 W. 8th St. #201 Los Angeles, CA 90005
I think they do make up also.

40.
Jk says:

My friend got her make-up done by her but wasn’t so great…
She cried all the way to church.
Make up artist from HILLS in L.A does a great job too.
Majority of my friends got their make up done by her and it was really nice!!!!!
I strongly recomended.

Greetings,

I got a reference from my good family friend (a much talented florist) in the bay area make-up artist. His name is Jonathan and his number is 415-902-0582. Tell him Duc referred you. My mother said she went to a wedding once, and told me the bride looked absolutely beautiful! She also said he charges a hefty amount $400 per bride.

If you’re looking for a florist also, his name is Duc at 408-226-6700. Does beautiful work…if only I could use him…but I’m having my wedding in So Cal.

omg…hills beauty???….lol….i’ve had at least 3 or 4 friends so disappointed with the make-up and service at hills beauty for their trials…..a couple of them then went to jessica and couldn’t believe the difference….they said she was by far the best in ktown……i had a trial last month and i was so happy with it, she’s so friendly and professional….i booked her for my wedding in october…..the only bad thing is that she doesn’t really travel so my whole bridal party has to get to her studio by around 7am…….but i figure it’s worth it.

I had Jessica do my make-up and my bridesmaids for my wedding last year and she did an amazing job! She is really sweet and taught me so much as I never really wore makeup before. I had three sessions with her: Engagement pictures, wedding and post wedding pictures and my look was different each time…I paid attention to everything she was doing and learned a lot. She’s amazing. I highly recommend Jessica.
