Torture

October 13th, 2006 @ 2:30 pm by Mrs. Daisy

I’m off from work today (as I am for half of every week), which is usually awesome.

Today, however, is a whole nother story. In the above-pictured box is my wedding band. I cannot open said box until Mr. Daisy gets home from work.

Self-deprivation was never a strong suit of mine (see: my weight gain, my drunken college years, my closet full of shoes, ad infinitum) so not opening this package is actually causing me physical pain. Woe is me!

Is it traditional for the bride to see the wedding band before the wedding? Mr. Daisy, at my father’s suggestion (way to help a brother out, dad!), thinks I should get to try on the ring for fit, but should do so blindfolded so that I will be surprised on my wedding day.

I think I should see it *now* so I can take it all in, since during the wedding and reception I will be too overwhelmed to appreciate it! (the band is of Mr. Daisy’s collaborative design with our jeweler and, I hear*, is evocative of the e-ring they designed and will fit with it too):

What do you think??? That I should see it ASAP, no?

Wait for him. Look at it together tonight so he can see your face the first time you see it. It will be a nice moment for the two of you to have together.

I agree about seeing it earlier….I don’t think I would want the look of shock on my face just before we were married ;)

It’s such a shame the package arrived, somewhat ripped open already… It was only prudent of you to make sure the ring was still securely inside…

I am really not into wedding day surprises, I totally say you should see it beforehand (like the minute Mr. Daisy gets home tonight!). I never heard of it being a surprise - the only thing I’ve ever heard that shouldn’t be seen til the wedding day was the bride in her dress - and even that, I’m not entirely sure why.

A: Your e-ring is gorgeous and I’m sure you band will be as well!
B: I would wait till he gets home tonight to see if he wants you to see it.
C: To distract yourself from the “precious” I would have to get out of the house so it would stop calling my name.

*gasp* Just staring at your e-ring is breath-taking, you can do without seeing your wedding band when you have that beauty on your finger. *hypnotizing sound* Just stare into that diamond…

Yeah, when we got my completed e-ring at the fed-ex station, I almost keeled over when Paul said I had to wait. Then he let me try it on, but he had to open it first. Is it sad that I’M ordering our wedding bands myself?

Love your ring, btw, what shape is the center stone?

Definitely open it with him. You are totally right that you’ll be too overwhelmed on your wedding day to appreciate it.

Gorgeous e-ring!

thanks, girls! i love it myself (go figure!) and i will definitely use these comments in the swaying his decision process.

adl, you’re devious plan is tempting, believe you me. hopefully, though, he will be home soon and amenable to an unveiling!! (and we are seeing each other prior to the ceremony, so… why invent a superstition to replace it??)

Amber, the center stone is a cushion cut, and there’s a ittle more info on it here:

I think it is really sweet to wait. I knew what mine looked like, I picked it out, but dh picked an inscription for it and wanted to keep that a surprise. So he tried the ring on me while I looked away so we could be sure it fit but I didn’t find out what was written inside until the end of our wedding reception.

fi is letting me pick a ring from a selection; he has his own ideas, but he says he will take mine into consideration.

we stopped by a claire’s to try some on against my e-ring, hee hee hee

Interesting, I’ve never heard of the wedding band being a surprise, you think you’d want to know if it sits well next to your e-ring. I try mine on every once in a while and dance around the house with it! :)

We chose ours together. I think I would have gone nuts not knowing what my wedding band looked like!

My e-ring was a complete and utter surprise but I saw a picture of my wedding band so I knew what it would look like. However, it looks different in person, in a gooood way. So even though I knew what my wedding ring looked like, I was still very happily surprised when I saw it in person. Surprise is a surprise and I think it’ll be just as sweet to be surprised tonight, with Mr. Daisy of course. You should wait for him with couple of glasses of wine and tell him you want to celebrate the arrival of your ring!

I know what my band is going to look like since it is designed to match the e-ring. But still, I want to see it when he receives it! So I was talking to FI ….”Uh Babe, when you get my wedding band can I see it before the wedding?” And he said “HELL NO!”
“But so and so got to see hers!”
“Uh, nice try.”
lol.
