Wedding Weekend

October 16th, 2006 @ 8:40 pm by Mrs. Violet

This weekend I attended my good friend Emily’s banquet reception in East Manor. First, I’d like to point out that Emily & Mike have already been married for 6 months. Earlier this year, they had a destination wedding in St. Thomas with very close friends and family. With such a beautiful backdrop, and their love of the islands, I expected nothing less.

To follow in the tropical theme, Emily chose a bouquet of coral roses to match the peach BM gowns. Mike’s tan suit works really well here.

On to the banquet. Their wedding was huge! 250 people in attendance. (I met a couple at our table that just got married 2 months earlier and they had 300 people at their wedding!)

As in typical Chinese banquets, there was plenty of food to go around (especially since “my” Mike is not a big fan of Chinese food/Seafood (gasp!) I ate some of his portions which included shark fin Soup, Chinese style sauteed lobsters with scallions and garlic, fish and more. I also downed a bottle of white wine. Again we sat at a table full of strangers, but by the end of the night, we managed to mingle with everyone, and even made friends.

Favors - Em & M (Emily & Mike) = M&M’s (Their names & wedding date were on the m&m’s.)

Even with 250 people, Emily & Mike managed to stop by and say hello. That was a big plus in my book. We only got a picture with the bride though.

Food for thought: The MC was bilingual, he spoke Cantonese & English and pulled it off really well. This wedding made me realize how important it is to have a bilingual MC. I initially didn’t plan on doing that, but on further observation, it really seemed to keep the crowd together and everyone had a good time. Not only that, the dance floor was never left empty! It turns out that the MC is very popular and requested often. Our new friends know him personally! Yay!

Emily is one of the nicest girls I know and I’m very happy for her. Cheers to Emily & Mike.

Which East is that? I also need a chinese banquet for about 300 people, how was the service?

LK - It was the East Manor on Kissena Blvd. The services was good. Each course was served by the waiter (meaning, they plated the food for you) During the appetizer portion, the waiter was a bit cheap (per my fiance) he pointed to the spring rolls, and the waiter gave him only 1 piece.

It accommodated 250 people just fine.. I dont know if they can squeeze in another 50 in that room, but there were 2 weddings going on at East that night and they had a separate room of regular diners.

We’re having our banquet at East Manor in May. They fit approx 850 people including kids. 80 tables (11 to a table with kids)

We’re not sure of the layout since we have 800+ but I’m glad that Miss Violet had good reviews about the place

rain - you have 800+ people attending!?? im almost in disbelief! you must send us pictures!

i did want to mention one thing. Their bathrooms suck. It was pretty cramped and not too clean in there.. Since you’re going to use the whole restaurant, you may want to bring in a cleaning crew to spruce up the bathroom.. Just a thought.

Hi Miss Violet,

Would you be able to give me the information regarding the MC? My friend has been looking for one that is bilingual and will put the crowd together.

Thanks!
May
