Open Question: NY Vendor Referrals

October 17th, 2006 @ 12:59 pm by Open Question

My fiance and I want to design our own invites and STD’s. Actually, more him than me, he’s the artistic one of us, but I love the idea of it being personal. Does anyone have recommendations for printers in the NYC or Brooklyn area who will work with a completely custom design? I am open to the idea of most printing methods, although I seem to have a soft spot for letterpress. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Jessica.

Can you recommend a reputable nyc seamstress who custom-makes dresses? I’m having the worst time trying to find an affordable strapless/trumpet/memaid-style/with-no-embellishment dress for under 2k.

I wanted to get extensions for my sister’s wedding and wanted to know if anyone has had it done in NYC and if so, how much does it cost and if there are any good referrals. I’m not looking for the long term (3 month) extensions where they burn it into your hair and is relatively $$$. I’m looking for the clip on ones that last for a week or so that is more in my budget.

Thanks for everything.

Jenny

Hi Jessica, Check out Peter Kruty Editions in Brooklyn. Miss Grasshopper and Miss BOP got their invitations done by them and they turned out beautifully. (put kruty into the search if you’d like to see).

Jenn there is a boutique in the east village called blue that does custom dresses. I think she could do a wedding gown for under 2000 and makes beautiful trumpets.

Jenny - sorry I don’t know of any hair extension places, but will let you know if I hear of any.

good luck everyone! :)

Jessica: I second Mrs. Bee’s suggestion of Peter Kruty Editions. They can do digital printing and letterpress (or a combo of both!)and they are great to work with.

Jenny - My hair and makeup person, Aly from A Perfect Bride (perfect-bride.com) does short term extensions. I’m not having them but she did an incredible job in general at my hair and makeup trial (she does airbrushed makeup for anyone looking for that).

I loved PKE, but here were some of the others I looked into (some are local, some are not, but are better priced in some cases: http://www.weddingbee.com/2006/06/07/letterpress/

Sesame Letterpress in Dumbo are run by a husband and wife team that will work with custom designs if you want to go the letterpress route!

Jenny- QVC sells some extensions from a “famous person”- I don’t know if that’s below quality that you are looking for, but I have seen them presented a few times (just passing through) and they seemes alright, I think they were around $30.
