About Mrs. Daisy

The Humanzee

October 17th, 2006 @ 11:21 am by Mrs. Daisy

So, the long and the short of is, I live with a man who is part human, part ape. The ape part manifests itself in Mr. Daisy’s a) fondness of bananas; b) tree climbing ability and, most notably, c) general furriness. Indeed, since the day I met him, Mr. Daisy has sported a bit of “scruff” (think George Michael, late 80’s post-Wham years) in addition to some old school Burt Reynolds-style chest hair.*

One time, when we went to Mexico on vacation, Mr. Daisy shaved (his face) and I hardly recognized him sans scruff. So we are presented with quite the dilemma vis-ƒ -vis the wedding. Does he shave the scruff that everyone he knows has come to know (and love?) in favor of a more technically “wedding appropriate look? Or does he keep the quasi-beard in a go with what you know mindset?

To shave or not to shave...?

My guy is leaving his goatee for the wedding because we’re so used to him with it however, I think your FH looks super cute clean shaven!

i think the 5 o’clock shadow — as opposed to actual sculpted facial hair — might look dated (”daddy, why didn’t you shave when you married momma?”) whereas the clean shaven face is always a classic look.

similar talks in my neck of the woods re: haircut. The “world”, ok, his mom, would so prefer a clean-cut, but he’s shaggy. And so cute shaggy. And fancy tux plus shaggy hair… adorable. I feel scruff fits into this category.

hm, his facial hair isn’t just unshaven. i should have clarified.
he uses the trimmer everyday and shaves the neck portion daily too.

Please the older generation–go with the shaven look. He may regret it years later on.

Also I think the pic of unshaven gets an unfair advantage, cause Mr. Daisy looks more friendly there, and it’s not as close up or as serious as the shaven one.

MCR, you make a great point (!!)–and the looking back on it years later is my major fear too–
Mr. Daisy actually emailed me to point out the same thing:
“I guess it didn’t help things that you used a not the most flattering clean shaven picture. I’d like to believe that had I shaved earlier in the night I might have been willing to fix my hair and put on a shirt.”

as for me, i think he looks adorable both ways. perhaps i am biased!

Shaven! Though he looks great with his shadow, a clean-cut look is classic for photos. Besides, he looks very neat and handsome shaven!

I think he looks nice either way, but he should go with what he likes and what he is used to so I chose the not to shave choice. He still looks very neat and clean cut even with the shadow, so I don’t see why he has to shave it just for the wedding.

there is nothing sexier than a guy with a 5 o’clock shadow. absolutely nothing.

when the other half & I get married (we still aren’t even engaged, but I’m looking to the future!), I fully hope that he chooses the 5 o’clock shadow because that’s what he always has (& also shows off his sexy manliness ;] ).

but like Mary said, it’s whatever he thinks he’ll be most comfortable with.

I’m all for looking like yourself for your wedding but if you plan to take pics in b&w, the scruff might come out looking more dirty than dashing. =P
