He proposed exactly 1 year, 1 month and 6 days after our first date (it's the only part of his proposal speech that I remember), and we're planning long-distance from Los Angeles for a July wedding in my hometown of Monterey, CA. I have a passion for all things "cool, cute and quirky" and I enjoy video games, reading blogs (WeddingBee, trashy celeb, consumer & political) and crafting in my spare time, if I have any!
About Mrs. Lemon

Design and the Internet

October 18th, 2006 @ 3:31 pm by Mrs. Lemon

The Internet has certainly opened up a huge sector of the wedding market that was once reserved only for special city folk. Instead of only allowing a privileged few access to amazing design and letterpress, the Internet now thrives with sharing the newest trends and ideas. I’m a sucker for them… just take WeddingBee, theKnot, etc. for proof!

As a DIY bride, I adore scouring for inspiration anywhere I can get it and figuring out how to reproduce it at home. I hate giving orders and am rarely satisfied with a product unless I sacrifice all control or retain all of it and do it myself. But my intellectual side is wondering if I’m being that creative or just snatching ideas from others…

Take for instance my first few pieces of wedding stationery. My Save the Date cards were inspired by a design on ifete.com.

My “Will you be my Bridesmaid” cards were tweaked quite a bit, but the essential idea was there from the model:

Oh well… I’ll stick to a strict bibliography and as long as I keep referencing my ideas, I guess it’s ok. :)

great minds! i saw the same std cards a few weeks ago and cut it out for my binder. and of course did a mock up. i was more than a little shocked by the price. i’ve been through so many different ideas but i think this is the one that’ll stick. now we’ll see what happens when it actually comes time to planning this shindig for real.

i actually AM a graphic designer…and it isn’t ok. i mean…inspiration is one thing, that’s the whole industry: but copying it perfectly is not. even though a lot of designers are expensive, some (like me) are not. but the more things are copied and reproduced, the more difficult it becomes to keep prices low.
