Girls Gone Wild

October 18th, 2006 @ 7:20 pm by Mrs. Daisy

On 10/7 my bridal shower and bachelorette both were held on the same one day (because that’s how I roll*).

On the way home from my shower, our vehicle packed to the gills with gifts (and bridesmaid/neighbor Lil’ E) and chauffered by Mr. Daisy, I called an audible and we stopped at Fab 208 so I could buy a bachelorette-ready top. Since the owner Jo is pretty much a fit and styling genius (and I’ve shopped there for about a million years), I was in and out with a fab top in under five minutes. Pleasing the double-parked Mr. Daisy and wowing E with my mad shopping skillz.

The festivities started out with three of my bridesmaids picking me up at the apartment to bring me to the mystery dinner destination. Although they brought a bottle of Dom, we did not have time to drink it.** (Blame this on my sister still operating on Pacific Standard Time).

Soon enough, as the taxi headed west toward the Meatpacking District, I found out where we were headed (continuing our Latin food theme from my shower): Son Cubano! The Bean and my sister had scouted it out and even had them make up menus (for our party of 16) with my face on it:

Hopefully the sight of me double-fisting beers did not impede anyone’s appetite!

I was crowned with a tiara and the sangria flowed like, well, sangria.

And Jen and Ivona gave me an “omazing” gift (the one “naughty” element of the night–I had told my bridesmaids that I wanted to skip the veils, the tank tops, and penis paraphenelia and they totally obliged). I was glad for the tad of naughty though. How else could you get to see my “o[my lawd!]-face”?

Then we exited Son Cubano to see four Town Cars waiting to whisk us away to the next destination (again, a mystery to me!). Much to my glee, we arrived at 2nd On 2nd for some karaoke insanity!

The girls had booked and decorated a private room (which we had for many an hour, insuring that everyone got to sing). The Bean said that since I didn’t want dirty props, she went the complete opposite way: candy and bubbles and krazy straws and all kinds of kids’ stuff!

Some of the great songs that were sung: Wannabe by the Spice Girls, Sweet Caroline, Paradise City, White Wedding, Lost in Your Eyes by Debbie Gibson, 9 to 5, We Belong, Son of a Preacher Man, Hit Me with Your Best Shot, I’ve Had the Time of My Life, The Right Stuff by NKOTB, Eye of the Tiger, Only the Good Die Young, Summer of ‘69.

Some the songs that were great until I sang them: Naughty Girls Need Love Too by Samantha Fox, God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood, Sister Christian, Rump Shaker by Wreckx-N-Effect, All Out of Love by Air Supply, Ev’ry Rose Has Its Thorn (and too many more. Really. I hurt people that night. Both their eardrums and their souls.)

Al, Jill and Sam, with me striking a muscle pose up front.

Shots were had by many (but not by me–I’ve learned to stay off the hard stuff!).

My law school girls brought sexy (and the 80’s) back:

I ended the night with a rousing (if I do say so myself– and I do!) rendition of “That’s What Friends Are For” since that’s how pretty much every Bar and Bat Mitzvah I attended in 1988 ended and I’m all about the nostalgia. (and the Dionne Warwick.)

The few, the proud, the survivors headed out to Planet Rose, a spot my cousin Lucy and have ended up in before, and then Mr. Daisy showed up at the end of the night to escort me safely home. What a guy!!

I cannot thank my friends enough for the bestest night ever!!! I think I would renew my vows every *month* if it would mean i could have nights like this all the time!!!

And the places were so great, so accommodating– Woo at 2nd on 2nd was especially helpful– I highly recommend both Son Cubano and 2nd on 2nd as bachelorette party destinations.

~~~
* because my sister could only come in for one weekend…
** never fear! the Dom was not wasted as it lives in my fridge now, awaiting a pop-my-cork occasion.
I live for karaoke…not really but I know how the love of karaoke can permiate through your bones…ha ha. I roll with the shower and BP in one day like that, too. At least that’s what I’ve done for my friends in the past and what my maid of honor said we’ll do this year for me as well. :O)
