Mrs. Lemon, Los Angeles/Monterey Age and Occupation in 2006: 26, Graduate Student (Public Policy) Fiance's Age and Occupation in 2006: 29, Environmental Consultant Engagement Date: April 7, 2006 Wedding Date: July 7, 2007 Venue: Rosary Chapel & Monterey Marriott, Monterey, CA About Me: My FI and I met online, but we like to tell people that we met at a "cookie shop" which is the technical location of our first encounter. He proposed exactly 1 year, 1 month and 6 days after our first date (it's the only part of his proposal speech that I remember), and we're planning long-distance from Los Angeles for a July wedding in my hometown of Monterey, CA. I have a passion for all things "cool, cute and quirky" and I enjoy video games, reading blogs (WeddingBee, trashy celeb, consumer & political) and crafting in my spare time, if I have any!

How I Met Mr. Lemon

October 18th, 2006 @ 11:59 am by Mrs. Lemon

I had one distinct purpose in signing up for match.com: to get my friends out of their relationship funks. The singles scene was rapidly turning sour for them, and I wanted to expand their horizons to a new pool of eligible bachelors. With my one month membership, I set out to test the system and prove that there was hope in meeting a good partner online.

I had gone on two unsuccessful dates when Mr. Lemon’s message arrived in my inbox. It was simple and to the point, and boy it did the trick!

One peek at the profile (our interests were really aligned, not to mention that Mr. Lemon is quite the cutey!), and I rambled off an extended reply. Thus began a long series of notes back and forth. Although we lived close to each other in West LA and worked within a mile of each other in central LA, we had difficulty scheduling a date until March 1. With only a few words exchanged by phone, we met up on a Wednesday night outside of our fateful cookie shop, Diddy Riese.

AND … KISMET!

I could connect the magic of our date to the yummy peanut butter cookies, the 2 mile walk/hike around Westwood, or the Jasmine Mint Tea Latte at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf that night, but in my memory we clicked immediately.

Mr. Lemon has a separate theory. His most vivid memory of the night was my goodbye hug as I escorted him to the parking garage. We smiled and he asked for the privilege of taking me to dinner in the near future. I agreed to take him up on that, and I gave him a hug. We went to part, and for some reason, I went back for another hug explaining that, “I just had to give you another.” In boy-logic, that threw him for a complete loop. He had no idea what to make of it and, according to him, I’ve never left his mind since that moment.

Oh… and before I get too mushy, I did succeed at my original goal. We’ve made quite a few uncertain friends eager to try out the online dating world, especially here in LA. Without it, we may have never known that our perfect match was just around the corner!

I tell people to go on match as well. I didn’t meet my fiance there but I think corresponding is the best way to know someone.

Diddy Riese has the best ice cream sandwiches, for like, a dollar!! Yum. great place to go on a date, you really learn a lot from an ice cream sandwich (”what do you mean you want plain vanilla on a sugar cookie??” BORING)!! Sounds cute!
