Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Mr. Plumeria is a huge Oakland A’s fan. He grew up with three other brothers, all of whom love sports, so he enjoys playing as well as watching sports. I, on the other hand, am admittedly not an athlete. I did figure skate for a lengthy period of time and excelled at that sport, but besides that one exception, my list of athletic feats is blank. While I grew up rooting for the A’s, I was never a diehard fan.

This past summer, though, I’ve been to more ballgames in the McAfee Stadium within one season than I’ve ever been to in my life. I’ve grown accustomed to getting up and down from my seat in excitement, smelling garlic fries, indulging in the occasional chocolate malt, and hearing peanut shells crunch beneath my feet. And I’ve learned things in the process, not only about baseball and all the jargon, but about my fiance and I.

I love wedding planning, but the fact stands that the wedding is one day that will precede a lifetime of marriage. In moments of reflection, I need to remind myself that I must plan and prepare for this just as much as I pore over the little details of the wedding day.

Going to ballgames with Mr. Plumeria is one of those things that is, to me, a give-and-take thing. Part of me gasped inside when he bought season tickets for next year (to get postseason rights this year, of course) when I thought of all the wedding stuff the same amount could have gotten. But I know that those games are just as, if not more, important to him as having the most perfect wedding is to me, and when I remember his patience through all of our wedding errand trips, I’m glad that he got the tickets. To him, the games are time spent doing something he loves with someone he loves, and that’s something we both should be excited about.

And I have to say, with the way the past season went (up until the past weekend… bummer!), it was pretty easy to be excited about the A’s, anyway. ;)

Mr. Blueberry turned me on to baseball, as well. Though I’ve gotta admit…we’re both Cards fans :-D Some of our favorite memories are at Busch stadium, sharing a Bud Select (I can’t stand beer that’s anything less than FREEZING cold, so once it’s too warm for my tastes I let him finish it and go get myself a fresh cold one :-D and talking about our beloved Cards. We went to a game on one of our first dates and still enjoy it :-)

while i’m not a big a’s fan like i was when i was little [to the utter horror of my dad who is...also doesn't help that i followed my mom's love of the yankees] i totally understand. i LOVE going to the ballpark…i’ve just got to get my bf on board with it. though if i’m there i’m sure he’d come just to spend time with me.

Let’s go Oakland! Clap-clap-clap-clap-clap. My fiance is a huge Giants fan. When he and I first started dating, I would bemoan the length of the baseball season. Over the past 4 years, I’ve learned to LOVE baseball, especially those A’s. I’ve been to more games at McAfee (and had more beer and ballpark food than any bride should!) It represents not just leisurely summer days, but time with my fiance arguing about the Bay rivalry, getting on the jumbo tron with friends and our ridiculous signs, and all things wonderful about the Bay Area!

Here’s to a pennant for the A’s next year and to lots more wonderful memories with our future husbands!

My FI is a total A’s fan too. So I took (surprised ^_^) him to the Sept 23’s A’s vs Angels game at McAfee for his bday. I’m clueless when it comes to baseball, so with the help of my coworker I was able to *wooo* navigate the A’s website and *wooo* found super awesome seats lol! I knew that he had been dying to go to a game but just never insisted since I wasn’t into the sport. It was funny because before the day came, whenever he said “oh too bad the season is about to be over and we never got to go once” I just “heeee heee heee” to myself. It was hard to hide the surprise! Of course this little surprise gift made him so very happy :-). It was very interestingly (uh is that a word?) fun for me too at the game even though I couldn’t even follow the ball many times :-P. The stadium food was so good (yummm garlic fries!) and just being there with him and being at an actual event made me very excited.

I love baseball! I’m a huge Giant’s fan–born and raised. Literally. My FI is a HUGE A’s fan, so Battle for the Bay is so much fun every year! Even though we’re rivals I’ve found the games to be awesome bonding experiences for me and FI. I even decided to incorporate it in our wedding by getting Giants and A’s garters. Guess which one is to keep and which one is to throw! ;-)

I’d be so psyched for season’s tickets to my team, but I’m the bigger baseball fan in my relationship. For him, it’d be basketball all the way.

I know he’d trade in much of the wedding costs for seasons tickets, no question. And for my baseball team, I’d probably trade a chunk of wedding change for it, too.

Mmmm, peanuts. beer. hot dogs. baseball.

And (kudos to the Blueberries!) GO CARDS TONIGHT!!!! [They're my No.2 favorite team - my AL division team always comes first]

Hehe… our story is just the opposite (and with football). Mr. Lemon was at odds with buying season football tickets - and before he met me, he had never been to a college football game before. Same goes for basketball!
I have, however, vowed to become a Jets fan for him. Oh… and he got me to do fantasy football this year as well!
