On Wednesday, I needed to pick up some tailored pants and Mr. Violet’s Mets jersey from the dry cleaners. I initially thought of giving Mr. Violet the receipt so that he could pick it up on the way home. Then I felt bad about it because I knew it would be easier for me to do it. The dry cleaners is only a block from the train station. Mr. Violet would have needed to find parking first and parking is horrible in Astoria.
So, anyway, I left it at that. Later that afternoon, Mr. Violet called me to see what time I was going home. I told him that I had to stop at the dry cleaners first. Without hesitation, he said, “Oh - I’ll pick it up.” I never asked him to do it, but he offered so that I wouldn’t have to. These moments make me so happy inside. I’m sure he didn’t even realize the gravity of his sweet gesture. He was doing it just because, just like he’ll charge my cell phone or toothbrush for me without me ever asking or even realizing I needed to have it done. We’re quickly approaching our 8 year anniversary, and life is very good to us thus far.
Oh, just to finish my story, in the end we both ended up picking the dry cleaning together, because I needed to drop by Michael’s for some art supplies.
