Sucker For A Miracle Cure!

October 20th, 2006 @ 6:38 pm by Mrs. Lemon

I need to be under strict supervision whenever I enter a shopping area. After buying a long-sleeve shirt for my trip to Chicago this weekend, I decided to cut through Bloomingdale’s today on the way back to my car. I tried my darndest to make it through the cosmetics area unscathed, but alas, I wandered over to the skincare section to examine some products. (You see, my face has been the victim of stress and abuse lately, and it’s definitely looking worse for wear.)

It was then that my friendly nature worked against my bank account. I started up a conversation with the Rodan + Fields gals, and before I knew it, I was on my way out the door with this:

Created by the makers of PROACTIV, they have four kits available to treat different skin needs: UNBLEMISH (my choice), ANTI-AGE, REVERSE, REGIMIN-PLUS and SOOTHE. According to my new friends, PROACTIV was made for oily skin, and mine is far from oily. I bought the travel size 3-piece kit ($45) from them and they gave me a free terrycloth travel case and 2 samples of their microdermabrasion paste and an anti-aging face cream.

What really sold me though? The money-back guarantee and Allure rating! I’ll let you know how it goes in the next month!

Has anyone else ever tried the Rodan and Fields line?

My sister and I use Proactiv, which is the only thing that can keep our extraordinarily oily and breakout-prone skin clear. I love it - it truly works wonders for me.

It’s also very pricey, which is why I cringe when I run out of both Proactiv and Bare Minerals at the same time. My wallet can only handle so much damage at once!

I’ve tried Unblemish!!! I looooooved Unblemish and used it for two years until my skin decided that it didn’t like benzyol peroxide and cystic acne started to appear. For the first year and a half it was wonderful, whiteheads went away and my skin was clear. I tried Proactiv and it only worked for a month or so until the pimples returned. I would still suggest using a seperate cleanser along with the Unblemish cleanser especially if you wear makeup, I didn’t feel like the Unblemish cleanser took away all the dirt from my face. Another really good product from Rodan and Fields is their exfoliating cleanser… I loooove it and it helps rid acne. Let us know how Unblemish works for you!

oooh i actually ran by that counter and they took my picture. they couldn’t find anything wrong with my skin and told me to be their “model” for their pictures for the “good/after” pics! hehe so i get the anti age one for free every 2 months. :) so instead of me using it i gave it to my fiance who needs a little help with his skin. but it’s totally worth it. his skin is super nice now :)

i just use clearasil but i’m glad that i ran by that counter. i hope it works for you too!!!

I hope you like your new products, I look forward to your reviews. But please be careful, I’ve heard that the Allure ratings (and many others) are actually based on which company gives the most money a.k.a. it’s just good advertising.

I hope this works for you! I tried Proactiv on a whim and my skin hated it and freaked out. My dermo said that it’s actually a good product, just some people can’t handle the benzoyl p. I’ve never heard of unblemish though! I’m a sucker for new things too!

I am a photographer in Birmingham AL and like the openness of this site. I would love for Birmingham to have a forum like this.
Thanks

hrm. my dermatologist told me to not ever use proactiv again… he said that it’s just over the ocunter concetnrations of benzoyl peroxide that were marked up about 200% of what they’re worth. i had a facialist friend tell me to not ever use proactiv, because its so harsh on your skin that you end up growing “thicker” skin to compensate and it ruins the skins’ texture. not sure if that’s all true, but i would say go to a dermatologist rather than a makeup counter person. if it works for you, great, but just remember that they’re usually working off commission whereas doctors aren’t.

oh, btw- proactiv didn’t work for me at all, and it ended up making my skin much rougher and drier although i have oily skin. right now i’m using benzaclin (prescription) and it’s working muuuuch better.

hm… i wouldn’t say all doctors don’t receive some sort of comp for writing certain rx’s. it’s not exactly commission, but unfortunately, rx companies find do find ways to “show their appreciation” to docs who write lots of scripts for their brand. it’s good to be aware of that…

My face freaks out with benzoyl peroxide, too. It makes my skin really red and itchy. My aunt is a dermatologist and she said that benzoyl peroxide works wonders if your skin can handle its harshness. Unfortunately, a lot of people can’t. I hope it works for you, though! The results can be great, if your skin can handle it.
