Back from Wal-Mart

October 21st, 2006 @ 2:15 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

Well I’m back from my Wal-Mart journey! I doubt anyone was keeping tabs on my location (:P) but I thought it would be worthwhile to show what I discovered while roaming their craft section.

First, I found this adorable stuff. It’s lke a border or edging, only with fabric “petals”!

The backing is a plain ribbon…

I’m not ashamed to admit I’m currently too poor to buy any for experimenting with (college student’s budget, remember), but here are some ideas I’ve got:

1)you could create a halo-like headpiece or crown for your flower girls

2)Add it to the waistband of a plain flower girl dress to add a splash of color and customization

3)Could wrap around long cylindrical vases to embellish centerpieces

4)You could easily wrap it around itself or around a central object (like a foam ball) to create inexpensive pomander look-alikes

Or many other things!

I also discovered these great satin-like fabrics:

They’re a steal at only $2.97 a yard, and can be used in so many projects! Table runners, chair bows, even RB pillow or guestbook cover if you’re super crafty.

I was hoping to find something that would work for my own table runners, but alas I came up emptyhanded. I acquired a Joann’s coupon through Weddingbee earlier, though, so I’m not despondent yet

After Wal-Mart I couldn’t help but stop by Dollar Tree (aka Deals) for more candles (we go through soooo many candles here it’s not even funny–we’ve got to get them at $1 apiece or we’d go broke! hehehe) and I discovered a couple pretty knicknacks in their candle aisle:

They have sort of a shiny, glazed look. I can just imagine a collection of them, filled with votives, as a pretty antique or Victorian-style centerpiece! Or you could even make them an unusual alternative to the usual stand in a unity candle ceremony. Like everything else at Dollar Tree, they are, of course, $1.

Oh, and in regards to my earlier need for something crafty? Well I came home from Wal-Mart with a yard and a half of this:

So pretty! Now if only I knew what to do with it. Any suggestions?

That fabric would be FAB as table runners. Or napkins. Or you could cut it into lengths for chair bows.

Hmmm… Now I’m the one getting ideas!

Woo hoo–college budgets!! I looooove the fabrics you found at Wal-Mart, I can’t help but think they would make lovely retro manderin collar dresses. Great finds!
