Faux Lashes. Faux Pas?

October 22nd, 2006 @ 7:36 pm by Mrs. Strawberry

There are a lot of brides out there that want to look naturally beautiful on their wedding day. I’m not one of them. That’s not to say I don’t want to look gorgeous on my big day–but there won’t be anything natural about it! :) I figure it’s my one chance in life to go ALL OUT. And by all out—I mean extensions. Hair extensions, you ask? Nay. (Well, to be honest, I’ll probably do those too!) I’m talking about eyelash extensions. Never heard of them? Neither had I! Here’s the 411.

Extensions are applied on lash-by-lash for a natural look. When applied correctly, eyelash extensions can last from up to six to eight weeks! Hot damn! It takes about an hour to apply and evidently can feel a little weird. While they might not be for everyone, this bride to be has an appointment next month. I’ll let you know how it goes!

I’ve actually tried eyelash extensions before and they weren’t all that great. They felt a bit sticky but then again, the person who did mine messed up (i had a few lashes that were sticking straight up, sticking straight out, etc.). In addition, I’m asian so the eyelashes only lasted about 3 weeks. (Mind you the lady told me this AFTER i paid, even though I had asked her earlier if it would last the full eight weeks) It’s a fun thing to try but don’t expect it to last too long unless you go to a really well known place.

I plan to do this too, as my fiance has 100 mile long lashes and I don’t want to look skimpy next to him.

:)

My sister got this done while we were in Korea this past summer. I think how long it lasts all depends on how well you maintain it. My sister was very good with it and i think she had it for a good 6 to 8 weeks. The effect it has on the eyes are very dramatic and pretty. I’m thinking of doing it myself for the “big day”!

I got it done in Shanghai this past summer. It was really cheap there, only about $10 USD! Here in Orange County, CA they are charging $200. =( My eyes looked amazing for about a month or so. I’ve even gone swimming and boogie boarding at the beach with my lashes.

I got them done last Christmas and I LOVED them! My eyelashes naturally stick straight out and I wanted curled eyelashes that were dark and thick. That is exactly what I got!
The prices are extremely varied in Vancouver and I paid about $50.00 (some places will charge $200 for the same process).

The thing to keep in mind is that if you have sensitive eyes like I do (I can’t even wear contacts) your eyes may reject the eyelashes and the glue that is used. My eyes constantly watered and eventually, lash by beautiful lash, they came off after only 4 days. I was so sad. But they look SO good for 4 days that I would do it again!

Haha, why does it look like that girl’s eye is all bruised in the “After” picture? I can’t wait to see yours though!

Would anyone be able to recommend a good place in NYC to get lash extensions? Thanks!

I actually had mine done recently and they look fantastic! I had mine done at Skintology @ 21st and 7th. Rachael who is the technician did a great job and took the time to get each lash–mine took 2 hours. It was very relaxing that I fell asleep. Although it does cost an arm and a leg, there is a 15% coupon you can get off SPA-NYC.com.
