Eyebrow Threading

October 23rd, 2006 @ 10:59 am by Mrs. Bee

Yesterday Miss Butterfly and I went to get our eyebrows threaded at Eyebrow Express near Herald Square. Miss Butterfly has been getting her eyebrows threaded for a while, but this was my first time. I always wanted to try it because I heard that it was quick, effective, and inexpensive (only $7 a pop!).

She grew her eyebrows out just for this post… for the love of weddingbee. :)

They look great, no?!

We even have video woohoo! She’s using actual thread.

More close-up:

There was a guy next to Miss Butterfly getting his eyebrows threaded at the same time. He was a bushy eyebrowed chap and so his tears were a flowing - but he came prepared with a washcloth to wipe them away. When it was my turn, I shed a tear out of each eye myself. Does it hurt? It’s comparable to plucking - not too bad - but the sound the thread makes when it’s plucking your hair is a little unnerving.

It was fast, cheap and they did a great job so I’d definitely do it again. I’m really a hag when it comes to things like this - I let my eyebrows get unruly, don’t get manicures, or regular haircuts. ;) But this was super easy and I’m always in the area so I’ll be back.

I think getting your eyebrows shaped and maintained a couple of months before your wedding is a great idea. Eyebrows really frame the face and so they have a dramatic impact on your look. Now if only I could find a way to grow more eyebrow hair! (Although I think it looks like you have more when they’re shaped because they’re clean and defined.)

How do you maintain your eyebrows? Waxing? Plucking? Threading?

I was just talking to someone about trying threading yesterday. Thanks for reading my mind and giving me a place to go!

Threading all the way. More control, I think. I had a bad experience with waxing once in college…the woman took off the tail of my eyebrow and it took a whole year to grow back!! Never again….:)

I used to get my eyebrows threaded all the time when I lived in CA, but they don’t have those kinds of places where I live now. I have to pluck them myself.

threading is the way to go. i will be the first to admit that i am biased and seek out indian salons - they are quicker, cleaner and cheaper. i’ve had not so great experiences with ladies of other ethnicities.

personally, i find it to be very relaxing and love how it feels! perhaps i’ve got a high threshold for pain, but i love it.

in queens, i get my brows & upper lip done = $7. sometimes $5. seek out a part of your town that has an indian community and go to the busiest salon you see.

eyebrow express is an indian salon and i’d definitely stick to indian salons myself. :)

i pluck my eyebrows with the good ol’ tweezerman. it’s the best method for me. i’ve tried threading before but to my dissapointment my eyebrows grew back in a few days. if you have REALLY BUSHY eyebrows like i do, i recommend plucking or waxing.

I *heart* threading! When I was in New York this summer I got mine done for $6 at:

Unique Threading Salon
727 Avenue of the Americas
(6th Ave, between 23rd & 24th St.)

I have very sensitive skin, so threading is definitely the way to go! I even got a small henna design on my wrist from the ladies at the salon!

Do you think threading works for people with little eyebrows? Seriously, in pictures sometimes I look like I have none… so when I tell people I need to figure out how I’m going to get my eyebrows done, they’re like “why? you need to keep every hair you can!” But stillll! I have sparse eyebrows but I NEED them to be shaped!! If threading works for sparse eyebrows, I think I will consider it…

I was first introduced to threading in college and I can’t imagine stopping… =) though once in a while I’ve resorted to getting them waxed at a salon near my office, but that’s only when I’ve been super lazy and forgot to make an appt with my threader before a special occasion or something…
It’s great! Quick and inexpensive, though it may be a bit more painful the first and second time. But you get used to it :)

Threading is the best! I get my fix from Unique Threading on 23rd and 6th. And yup, Indian salons are the way to go :)

I started threading about 1 year ago and its worked so much better than me plucking or waxing. My threading lady (also Indian) does a really good job of shaping it. I actually love thick eyebrows on girls, i think eyebrows should be proportional to the face. Threading is the way to go girls! Also, I sometimes thread my leg hair too! The hair grows much more fine.

i never heard of threading till now. this looks like something i can probably use if i can find a place that offers it here. but i just would need it for the shaping…hope i can find a place that does this.

I also get mine threaded. But since I live in Philly, and threading is non-existent here or far away, I just pluck it to shape it back to how it looked when it was threaded. Of course it’s not as nice but it’s pretty close.

Oh i live in California but work in Philly. We have a Little India in our city so I have a lot of places to choose from, unlike in Philly. :-P

I love threading - I’ll never go back to waxing!

I’ve been getting mine done by Susie at V Salon in Chinatown for the past 4 years. She’s very good, more and more girls have discovered her.

Ok this may sound ridiculous but I pay $25 to get mine threaded. I go to this place called Shobha in soho and they have like a 9 rating on nycitysearch. I used to go to this place around the fashion district for years, and I had no shape in my brows at all until I went to Shobha. Sashi at Shobha totally saved my brows and helped reshape it so I swear never to go back to another place again. It’s pricey but I go once a month and try to maintain my brows as much as I can before they grow out of control.

I have really unruly eyebrows. It wasn’t until pre-wedding prep that I actually did something about them. I went to Damone Roberts in Beverly Hills, and now I’m hooked. They use a combo of waxing, plucking, and trimming to make your brows picture-perfect!
