A Glimpse At Last Weekend’s Wedding

October 25th, 2006 @ 12:34 pm by Mrs. Plum

This past weekend, I was a guest at the wedding of a lovely couple - I thought I’d share a few pictures, since we all like seeing anything wedding related. :) She was the ultimate DIY bride - she did the flowers, decorations, setup, basically EVERYTHING - which made things a bit hectic the day of the wedding, but it all worked out. :)

Traditional Vietnamese Ceremony in the morning

The photographer thought it would be interesting to tell everyone to “kiss the camera” - personally, I think we all look like he said “make a fish face!” hahaha

27.jpg

The bride chose to wear a tiara instead of the traditional headpiece.

The photographer also thought it would be a great idea for the bride’s parents and my family to watch the couple make out - ahaha - I think I would have been mortified - married or not! That’s something I don’t want my parents to see! :P

They put a green orchid lei around their doggy, Mimi, and a cute baby sitting by the doggy.

The bride and her sister in their traditional ao dai.

And now… onto the “American ceremony” and reception at Swan Court in Richardson, TX.

74.jpg

They hired a classical guitarist to play during the ceremony - it was very romantic.

84.jpg

Ceremony site - with fountains (which, evidently, turned out to be a semi-bad idea - they were too loud and overpowered whatever the officiant/bride/groom were saying. It was also super windy outside, so the guests, including myself, got wet and cold during the ceremony!)

Waiting for the bride -

The groom is wearing that green orchid string (I forget what it’s really called) because the bride’s family is from Hawaii - it’s where they grew up.

Walking down the aisle with her father across the bridge.

Small intimate reception.

The bride did all the decorating herself right before the ceremony.

Cake table.

The caterer decorated the cake table with rose petals and scrunched up table cloth.

I love the bride’s ao dai. Do you know where she got it from? I’m looking for one to wear on my wedding day and I just couldn’t find one I really liked. But, hers really caught my attention!

Trinity: She actually had it made in Vietnam and then shipped over here for her wedding

CA Florist

Caution!!! Never use Calla lilies placed directly into a wedding cake (as shown in the photo above).

Callas are highly poisonous if ingested - which they will be for the people who received cake slices that came in direct contact with the flower.

Please see http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/poison/Zanteae.htm for more details.

The wedding pictures are lovely but a professionally trained florist would never recommend fresh callas on a wedding cake or anywhere that comes in direct contact with food.
