About Mrs. Orange

Budget? What Budget?

October 25th, 2006 @ 11:59 am by Mrs. Orange

According to About’s Wedding Budget Worksheet, each expense should be a percentage of your total budget as seen below.

Ceremony 3%
Reception 48%
Attire 10%
Rings 3%
Flowers 8%
Music 8%
Photography 12%
Transportation 2%
Stationery 3%
Gifts 3%

I don’t think ours looks anything like this because Mr. Orange and I decided to spend more on what we think is important. For me, it was the stationery (letterpress!!). For Mr. Orange, it was the photographer.

So, what’s your *BIG* splurge ?

According to that we’re under budget. We’re doing a few DIY’s which saves us $ I splurged on my dress.. it was $800 (which is still pretty inexpensive compared to a lot of designer dresses..) but it was a splurge for me.

Our splurge is definitely the photography, but it’s going to be absolutely worth every penny!! My rationale is the photos are the only tangible thing you get from the wedding expenses, so it’s where I’d rather put my money than say food or booze.

Letterpress and videographer. I have zero regrets about either one.

Definitely photography. That’s all you have left once the wedding is over.

Rings and photography. The way we saw it these are the two things we will see every day for the rest of our lives…other than each other ;). We were able to put our rings on layaway though so we were able to just get the rings we loved easier.

Photography is the one thing I wanted to splurge on, so we did. I dont’ regret it at all. We ended up splurging a bit on the reception site by getting a package with better food and more add ons, but it’s totally worth it. I’m really excited about both of our splurges! Oh, and I hired a DOC when we didn’t originally budget for it, but I’m sure that minimizing the day-of stress will be completely worth it, too.

We splurged on letterpress invites and they were so totally worth it.

Stationery and photography. Stationery is designed by me, but will be printed professionally with embossing, etc. and so still be quite a splurge. =) Like you, this is really important to me!

Dress: Orig budget was $2000 but I didn’t really like anything I saw in my budget and didn’t want the terror of the unknowns to have one custom made. I ended up spending more than twice the orig budget on a Monique Lhuillier gown that I loved!

Photographer was really important to me. I’m a flickr addict and have over 8,000 pictures uploaded in my flickr stream, own 5 cameras, and just have a thing for pictures. We splurged and booked a photograher in another city, but I really like his style. Thankfully, he offered us a cash price.

Venue: We really wanted something other than the typical hotel/church wedding. And it was also important to us that it to have a Southern California feel since most of our guests are out of town. And we also wanted the ceremony + reception in one location so there’d be less stress for us and our guests.

Our only splurge so far has been on our photographer. After seeing our e-pics though, I’m so glad we did. I can only imagine how our wedding pics will turn out. :)

the services of our photographers + album=11k. yikes! this actually costs more than our ceremony and reception combined (we’re having a small destination wedding)

Reception Venue - renal alone is 35% of the budget, but we can bring in our own caterer and liquor so we’re hopefully going to save there.
It’s totally worth it, regardless, since the site takes our breath away! It’s exactly what we imagined so we’re pretty excited about that.
We got photographers for under $1000 - and they are AMAZING!! Husband and wife team that were graphic designers but majored in photography in college. :)

The big splurge is definitely the reception. We’re spending a lot on food, which we think is most important for our guests. We’re also spending a lot on flowers too.
