Open Question: Alcohol

October 25th, 2006 @ 12:30 pm by Open Question

I am having an outdoor reception to celebrate our wedding (which took place this past summer). My question is this - how do I figure out how much beer, wine, soft drinks, etc. I need to buy for 70 guests?

Thanks for your help!

Michelle

Evite has a fun calculator for this!

not sure how accurate it is, but hopefully will give you something to work with!

Hi Michelle,

This is what we bought for our 100 person wedding.

http://www.weddingbee.com/2005/01/18/alcohol/

but most of it was left over because a friend donated 6 bottles of rum and we used that in our signature cocktails - thats what most people drank all night. (great way to save money on your bar tab)

this is a great beverage calculator from evite: http://www.evite.com/pages/party/drink-calculator.jsp

just put in your info and it’ll give you the numbers. :)

Thanks ladies! The evite calculator was very helpful. It’s recommending 25 - 6 packs of beer (which I thought I would need more of) and 30 bottles of wine (which I thought I would need less of). I’ll probably buy more beer and stick with the recommended wine purchase. I am also making a signature drink - Hurricanes - to go with my Cajun themed reception. It’s this weekend so I’ll let you guys know how it goes!

At our wedding, we just used the unlimited drink package that the hotel offered (Soft Drink, Beer, Fresh Orange Juice, Water, etc). Wine was a bit expensive, and knowing our guests are not big drinkers, we thought it wasn’t worth for us to pay for the wine package as well. So I looked for wine companies that did “Sale & Return”, I bought 14 cases of Red & White Wine (Red is always more popular), but guaranteed 7 cases. So if I had left over, they would buy it back from me. At the end of the day, I had around 4-5 cases left over, the vendor picked it up the next day, and sent me a cheque within a week!

I help run a wedding event venue that has an alcohol license. We are not legally allowed to allow outside alcohol into the building. If we do, we can loose our license. I am not sure if this is a specific Alabama law, but check with your venue.
