About Mrs. Lemon

Vertically Gifted

October 25th, 2006 @ 10:58 am by Mrs. Lemon

Every few years the fashion gods smile upon those of us who are “vertically gifted” and declare flats a wardrobe essential. Designers then throw ballet flats and slingbacks in every color and style out to the masses for a few months until the next wedge craze invades just in time to pay off my shoe bills. I’m also a fan of kitten heel couture, but I get in trouble with most everyone for even the slightest raise in height. After all, they’ve invested in their 4″ heels just to make conversation with me a bit easier. ;)

For me, this is one of those lucky years that I have an abundance of options to select from. Therefore shopping for wedding shoes shouldn’t be so hard right? Well, when you crave the adorable 3 1/2″ shoes that everyone else gets to wear, it makes things tough. But I’ve narrowed my search to gold flat/almost flat shoes.

Here are some of the options I’ve happened upon so far:

Zappo’s, Delman

girl! i think you should wear whatever your heart desires, even if that means 3 1/2″ heels. =) ballet flats are soooo comfy though, you should feel lucky you have a “reason” to wear them! like most of the other commenters here, if only i were as lucky to be vertically gifted…*sigh*

I, too, like the London Soles best. But perhaps the Steve Maddens if you’re going for a more elegant look. Let us know what you decide and post pictures! =D

at least you won’t have to worry about changing shoes or even kicking them off by the time the reception rolls around. i like the london soles too those would be fun and just a little funky. which is always a good thing.

As another tall girl, I appreciate the post. Fiance and I are both the exact same height, and I promised him that I wouldn’t get heals for the wedding.
It’s hard seeing all the pretty heels, and I love walking in them, but I also don’t want to be 2″ taller than him… sigh.
Thanks for the post!

I’m tall and I get the comments too–”Thanks a lot for wearing heels, aren’t you tall enough?” I don’t wear them often (I’m a jeans, Chucks and boots kinda girl anyway), and I’m a big fan of kitten heels. When I get married, I’d like to wear kitten or small heels, because you walk differently in heels, even small ones. It’s somehow more ladylike. I don’t want to stomp down the aisle, and, trust me, I might! :D I really love Peter Fox’s shoes, because I’m weirdly conservative in a lot of ways and like to see something as formal as a wedding gown with closed shoes. But nothing too high, my SO is only an inch or so taller than I.

I’m a shorty, too, but I love flats! I wear them more often than heels (though I also love my stilettos) because they’re so cute!

I’m a fan of the Delman and the Steve Madden. The London Sole ones are really cute, too, but they seem more casual to me. Oo..you would have absolutely no problem using your wedding shoes again after the wedding!

Dear TallGirl,

Wear whatever shoes you want, on your wedding day and other days. Us shorties understand. We get to wear flats and heels alike, and so should you. Worst thing: you end up looking tall or short… but you are, so it’s okay! Also, try to enjoy some of those great pants with cool bottom designs and hems that would just drag on the floor if I wore them.
