We Are Getting Married?

October 25th, 2006 @ 11:32 am by Mrs. Butterfly

In less than a month, I will be getting married. Woah. 8O

During the entire engagement period, I never felt the impact of those words. It just felt like Mr. Butterfly and I were living together, and we happened to be planning a wedding. It didn’t feel like we were getting married… until Monday. We both took a day off from work and headed downtown to get our marriage license. A money order for $35, two driver’s licenses, and 30 minutes later, we had our license. Yup, it’s now official. We are getting married!! :D

Some funny things happened in that licensing office. While we were waiting, there was another couple next to us trying to get their license. I say “trying” because they did not end up getting one. Why? Well, in NY State, you must report all of your previous marriages. The groom in this case, apparently forgot that he was married once before. He actually didn’t remember until the lady behind the computer pulled up his record to show him.

Five minutes later, a foreign couple walked in the office, and all I heard them say was “We need two witnesses?”

I wanted to stick around a bit longer to listen, but alas, we had to prep for our engagement photos…

How exciting for you! The countdown seems real now :)

I find it hard to believe that the man “forgot” he’d been married once before - how is that possible?

we were sitting next to bobby flay and stephanie march when we were getting our license and the person asked them if either of them had been married before. bobby flay said that he had been married twice before. i think it felt a little uncomfortable to say that in front of his then fiance - or it felt a bit uncomfortable for us to hear it.

but they seem really happy together so i hope it lasts!

anyway congrats on getting your license! woohoo!

heh. when we were in vegas getting our marriage license there was a mother there with two kid looking people and the woman behind the counter goes “now you understand you are giving your consent to your underage daughter to get married”

it was a little strange

our friend with us wanted to see if they would give a license to my fiancee and her just to test it out to see if they’d catch onto it. we didn’t do it. but it was tempting!

i think i feel the exact same way you do. i mean even though we got our license to get married in nevada, we changed our minds about marrying there and are getting married in DE instead. my friend who just got married said, she really doesn’t feel all that different now. still the same guy. still the same things to live with. not much of a change! heh. i guess that’s good…

Yay on you getting your marriage license!

I really want to hear the story behind that guy who forgot he was married, though. I bet it’s a good one!
