Beehive

October 26th, 2006 @ 3:17 pm by Beehive

In today’s beehive:

  • NL is designing a friend’s invitation and wants to make the RSVP a tear-off. Where can she purchase a perforation tool that will make a dotted line with pronounced holes like the kind on tear off stamps?
  • Kim wants to know how long an engagement period should be. All the venues she’s looked at are booked for Saturday night next October, and is wondering if she should just push the wedding to April 2008 or try to convince her dad that Sunday is a-ok.
  • Jen’s colors are black and pale pink. She’s having trouble finding pink linens that don’t look like Pepto Bismol. Are 25 black tables too dark?

I got mine at Michael’s - I got three little ladybug tools that were a rotary cutter, perforation tool and folder. They had fancier ones, but mine works great!

Michael’s (or any craft supply store) should have a couple different options. There are hand-blades that perferate (rolls on the blade that does the work) or paper cutter type things that slide across the paper.

My question is: How long should an engagement be? I’m asking because I recently got engaged and am now in the process of trying to book a venue. My dad insists on a Saturday wedding. I was trying to get an October date due to daylight savings time and the sunny weather in October in CA. But all the venues that I really want are already booked up until December. So I’m thinking of pushing the date to April/May 2008. But that date seems so far away. Surely, all me, my FI and friends are going to get tired of all this wedding stuff for 16 months. What should I do? Try to convince my dad Sunday is A-OK (this is really a hard sell) or just go ahead and wait until April? I had no idea there was so much urgency to book a Saturday night during a daylight savings month in CA!

I have a question for the beehive…

My wedding colors are black and a really pale pink. I’m having trouble finding a pink linen that doesn’t scream “pepto bismol”, but are 25 tables covered in black too dark for a wedding reception?

Jen–you can always brighten up black tablecloths by adding pink runners! Lots of people use sheer ribbon criscrossed over the tablecloths to create runners, or you could easily DIY your own runners out of pretty fabric from Joann’s or Hobby Lobby. But even if you do go with all black, as long as your centerpieces have some color it should be lovely and not at all too dark.

HTH!

Kim-

My fiance and I will have been engaged 14 months by the time we get married. We are planning our June wedding in a city 3 hours from where we live, and it has definitely helped so far to have the extra time! April/May 2008 will be here before you know it!

Re: black table cloths. The tablecloths that come with my venue are maroon. I don’t have the money to rent other ones and I’ve been worried about everything being too dark. I got some light green cloth napkins to work as table runners (they are all small tables) and I’m thinking candles, candles, candles. They make any dark room seem romantic. I’m putting candles everywhere I can.

Jen - I also had black with pale pink accents at my wedding in Sept. 2006. We used black linens with black runners and my grandma sewed 3″ pink satin ribbon to the sides of the runners for accent on the dark tables. It was so cute! Good luck! -pixelvixen

For make up in NYC I would hit any dept store - my favorite is the Scott Barnes counter at Saks have them do your make up. Tell them the situation if you like it buy a lipstick or eyeshadow and have them do your make up before the engagement pics.

I purposely try to buy makeup before a big night out so I can go and get my make up done professionally and then not feel guilty about it. I have a friend who will say I really do not need make up and hand the artist a $20
