The “One”

October 26th, 2006 @ 6:47 pm by Mrs. Peach

About a month ago, I went to Cinderella’s Closet to try on wedding dresses. They had so many that I couldn’t really look through them all, nor did I want to by the end. >_< But they had a great selection and in many sizes.

I mainly looked at form fitting dresses because I think by now, I've decided that I'm unfortunately too petite to wear a poofy one. The winner of the day was (don't mind clips, the dress was too big):

I really really really really really like this one. It’s pretty simple, yet it has a unique cut and a brooch that provides a lovely accent. Also the folds will be good in hiding my belly. shy.gif It is however, the most expensive out of the ones I tried on and liked. But this really is above the rest.

However, (dun dun dun!) I didn’t feel what many brides claim is the feeling they get when it is the “one.” Neither my mom nor I teared up, and I could breathe perfectly fine. So does this mean it’s not the “one?” Eh I dunno, I think I believe in the “few.” hahaha~ There are a few dresses out there that would be “perfect” as your wedding dress. Makes life much easier on ya, I think. Or maybe I’m just rationalizing because I really like this dress and I’m starting to feel tired from all this wedding dress shopping…

How about you, do you believe in the “one”?

I didn’t believe in “the one” until I found it. When I was looking I even told myself..”don’t worry about finding some perfect dress, just find one that looks nice and get it over with” But then when the one came along…I just knew. It’s so corny, I know. :-P

That dress looks great on you, though! Try on a variety of styles–I ended up getting one very different from what I’d envisioned, but I love it :-)

that dress is gorgeous on you! i love it… but if you wouldn’t be excited wearing it, then i don’t think it’s “the one” for you.

Beautiful! I tried on several dresses in all sorts of styles and came across ONE dress that I didn’t want to take off. The funny thing is, it’s exactly what I DON’T want to wear! I’m still searching :-) but I think I’m in denial.

i don’t know if i believe in “the dress.” i’m a lazy bride who wanted to stop looking and found a deal on the one i liked most to date, so i bought it. so maybe i don’t belive because i haven’t found the one.

in that case, i never will. it’s bought and done.

i got excited when i saw it online and on other brides. i thought it looked great on me although a little poofier than the original vision in my head. it’s good enough for me!

I just wanted to start off by saying you looked great in your dress! The brooch definitely brought something to the dress!

I recently bought my dress even though my wedding isn’t until Oct 2007. The bridal salon I got it from was having a 20% sale on everything so my Mom and I decided to “check things out” and if we found something, bonus for us because of the sale. So “the one” that we fell in love with was actually a “just for fun” dress that my sales attendant had pulled out for me. At first I was reluctant, but since it was “just for fun”, I tried it on. Even before it was completely zipped/tied/tucked/clipped on, I started rubbing the dress in enjoyment and glee and had the biggest smile on my face. My Mom felt so strongly about the dress that she started to tear up and called it quits on the search. This was it. Lo’ and behold! *The One*

I think the whole “The One” thing is way overblown. I think it creates way too much pressure on brides and they end up with these really high expectations when shopping for a dress and it ultimately leads to disappointment when they can’t decide on a dress.

There are tons of dresses that everyone would look good in, it’s just a matter of finding one that makes you feel beautiful and that you can picture yourself wearing on your day.

I agree with your sentiments of “the few”. Maybe wait a few days-weeks, try on more dresses, and if you are still thinking about this one…then buy it. “The one” is something you build in your mind.

the dress looks very nice on you!

as far as your feelings about finding “the one” i have to say, that is how i felt while dress shopping. i thought my first trip would result in something - and i did find a dress, very lovely but more than what i wanted to spend. so i decided that i’d give it more time. but after several different trips to different salons, i was sorely disappointed because although every dress looked okay and would work…. nothing made my heart flutter or my gut react. i became resigned to narrowing the ones i liked best down.

and then one day i went to one more salon at the advice of a friend. and that was the day. i tried on my dress… it wasn’t one i thought i’d like. but when i put it on…. i just knew i had found my dress. logic overran and i left that day without a deposit. but that dress and the way i looked in it was seared in my mind. so i took a coworker with me the very next day during lunch and i tried it on. honestly even without her admiration, i probably would have still bought it. heh.

although to provide a counterpoint. i have a friend who got married recently and never quite had that feeling about her dress. but. she looked so beautiful nontheless. and by then, she was in love with her dress. especially after she had it sized perfectly for her. she grew to love her dress best.

so take heart. it can, and will all work out no matter what dress you choose.

i didn’t believe in the “one” till i found it. i tried on a lot of beautiful dresses, and was considering buying one of the many pretty ones. but then i tried on mine and i didn’t want to take it off. when the saleslady told me that a lot of other women had been trying it on and thinking about it i got kinda jealous and upset that other people were trying on “my dress.” at that point i knew it was the one. keep trying dresses. the dress i got is nothing i thought i would buy.

i could be happy with so many different dresses now that i’m in the biz of looking at them all day long. but when i tried them on, there was a “one.” but i really don’t believe in the idea of a “one.” except when it comes to mr. bee of course! ;)

you look stunning. i love the subtle details of the dress, it’s so elegant and flattering!

i don’t think it’s hard for a bride to think she’s found the “one”. the whole dress thing was just so emotional for me that i’m sure i would’ve loved the way i looked in a long white potato sack!

i had two serious dress try-on trips. the first day i found a dress that i thought was it. i felt amazing and my moh cried and all. :D i went back a second time, some months later, just to re-try it on to make sure. it just wasn’t the same!! still a beautiful dress, yes, but just not the same as before. so, at the prodding of my friends, i tried on a completely different dress in lace. lace was really my first choice but i never seriously considered it because my fiance isn’t crazy about it. there were no tears from anyone else, but upon seeing my reflection, i had to hold back a lump in my throat (yes, so corny but true)… that’s when i knew. and i knew right then and there that my fiance would love it too! to this day, i know i made the right decision… the lesson i learned is, go with your instinct.

I love it! You look so elegant. It has beautiful lines.

Like you, I was tired from dress shopping and thought I wasn’t the type of person to tear up over a dress (and I’m not). I didn’t know my dress was the one, and in some ways, tormented myself with that for a long time. “Did I get the right dress? What about that other one…?” But in the end, on the day of the wedding, I knew I had the perfect dress for me.

Good luck with your decision! I think this one looks perfect.

I looked in magazines and online at dresses many many times before figuring out what type of dress I wanted to have. And then one day I turned a page and there IT was. So I rushed to the computer to find out where I could try it on, called a few places, got prices in different states. I found one place an hour away that had one in the boutique I could try on. As soon as I put it in, I knew it was the one I wanted to have but the price tag was a little more than I wanted to spend. I kept looking, but always back to that dress. Then, one day as I was looking online I managed to find it for $500 less! I about fell out of my chair! I was so excited that I would be able to get my “dream” dress. Our wedding isn’t for more than a year, but they will discontinue the gown this november. I am a little concerned that maybe something better will come along, but I think deep down, this is THE ONE for me. (besides, i’ve looked at some of next years gowns, and none of them look close to this one. :)

Hi girls! Sorry, for the late reply… twas gone this weekend. As for the dress it is NOT Amsale (thus not the same as Mrs. Ladybugs altho I now see how similar it looks). With my budget I couldn’t afford Amsale, unless it went on SALE. haha. okay sorry for being corny. But yeah, the dress is from moonlight bridal (tango line). I got it at a very very very (David’s bridal comparable) affordable price. Yayyy! ^_^ And I’m not standing on anything.
