Beehive

October 27th, 2006 @ 2:15 pm by Beehive

In today’s beehive:

  • Michelle has 3 flowergirls. Would the 3 boys escorting the girls all be called ringbearers, or is there only one ringbearer?
  • Rain is looking for NYC makeup artist recommendations for an engagement shoot.
  • LK is on a tight budget and is considering renting a dress. Has anyone regretted spening hundreds or thousands on a dress you’ll only wear once?
  • Liza wants to know if anyone has worn ballroom shoes for their wedding and how they worked out, and for store recommendations in NYC.

I know this is kind of sacrilegious, but I’m on a really tight budget and was considering *sob* renting a dress. Have anyone ever regretted spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on a dress you’ll only wear once?

I think I’ve heard of some people doing more than one ringbearer. For Filipino weddings we have more than one bearer, but they’re not all ringbearers. I have 4: 1 ringbearer, 1 Bible bearer, 1 coin bearer and 1 covenant bearer.

Michelle: I had the same problem and need. I picked the tallest (most trustworthy) boy and girl and made them “head flower girl and ring bearer.” I had the other three boys and girls walk infront of them. The girls still did the whole passing out the flowers and such and the boys (well two that didnt believe in coodies) linked arms with their girls. I called them attendants to the flower girls. It was adorable and worked out really well.

I heard ballroom dance shoes were supposed to be great for birdes - comforable enough to wear all night, a little fancy, etc. Any opinions from anyone who has worn them? Any store recommendations in NYC? I’ve found them online but I’d prefer to try them on.

LK there’s nothing sad with renting a dress. I rented mine, for me it’s about practicality more than the cost, (even though I do appreciate the saving), but I really don’t have the space to store a dress that I’ll never wear again, and have no interest in counting on the remote chance of having my daughter (what if I don’t have one?) wearing the dress 30 yrs from now. I’m very happy with my decision and no regrets at all.

Liza, try Worldtone Dance: http://www.worldtonedance.com/
which is in Chelsea and has a huge selection of dance shows. i have my ballroom practice shoes from there and they are *very* comfortable. (they’re open now in LA for all you LA brides!)

Rain, i have nothing but LOVED Laura Nadeau, who did my makeup for e-pics and will be doing my wedding makeup. she also did Mrs. Firefly’s wedding makeup and that’s pretty much why i booked her. check out the gorgeous photos to see why:

I haven’t used ballroom shoes, but I dance and can vouch for how amazingly comfortable they are. I’ve used them clubbing, too and my feet never hurt! Sorry, can’t help you with the store, though. I’m in CA

I always take prices at face value and am quite terrible at bargaining. I am in the process of visiting florists and was wondering if it’s common to ask for a lower price.

You can always buy a dress off ebay, or from preownedweddingdresses.com. I’m selling one myself at http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/listing/1637.htm
