Halloween Costume Dilemma

October 27th, 2006 @ 3:20 pm by Mrs. Bee

As I’ve mentioned before, Mr. Bee and I are dressing up as a bee and beekeeper for a Halloween party tonight.

But Mr. Bee tried on his costume last night and we realized that he looks like a fencer! So he’s going to wear yellow gloves, but maybe also a name tag that says something like Beekeeper, or Bee’s Keeper, or Mr. Bee - maybe with my bee hearts logo under it too? Ah the embarrassing things Mr. Bee does for love… ;)

We don’t have that much time but, do you have any suggestions on how to make Mr. Bee look more like a beekeeper?

OK this may be too obscure and may just show that I watched too much educational TV when I was a kid, but you know how beekeepers are always carrying these tins of smoke? They’re like little smoke guns that make the bees calm and sedate so the beekeeper can get the honey out.

Or you could just have him carry a big honeycomb. :-P

Can he carry the gigantic white box where the bees live around with him? ;-)

I think a nametag would be fine though, with yellow gloves, and maybe honey? Or taping little cutouts of pictures of bees all over him?

This might take some time but if you get fake bees (or make them out of those little felt pom-poms) and glue them to thin wire, you can make it look like they are flying around his head!

i don’t know whether it’s because i read weddingbee religiously, despite the fact that marriage is no where near my future =P, but i am a bumble bee for halloween too!! but my costume is slightly different, more fitting for my age ^_^ http://www.threewisheslingerie.com/images/honeybee.JPG

but back to the point…. i think a nametag should be fine. i also like miss bluebell’s idea of taping little pictures of bees. =)

Ha on Ugly Betty last night, she was a bee and her boyfriend was a bug catcher. He had this huge net. Was really funny.

He could glue little honeybees to his costume, as suggested, or carry around a honey dipper: http://www.naturalcollection.com/fckupload/Image/honey-dipper-small.jpg

it does look like a fencer suit… i would put “bee’s keeper” on it & buy bee stickers & put them all over :) the pompom idea is also very cute & more 3 dimensional…

and joy… i wore that outfit last year… loved it… the only thing is i was in west hollywood where it was crowded and the wings could get in the way a lot :(
