Open Question: Black Flowers

October 27th, 2006 @ 12:37 pm by Open Question

Hi there!

First let me preface by saying that your site is what I visit at work at least 10 times a day…. So, I need help from you ladies and your infinite wedding-knowledge!

I am getting married in October of 2007 and my ceremony will be at 6pm. My colors are deep red and black. I’m going for a very luxe, sexy atmosphere with a lot of candles. My question is aside from black magic roses, (which I will of course be using) are there any black flowers? I want something different and unexpected. Help!!

Thanks,

Ashlynn

Hi Ashlynn!

Have you looked into black calla lilies? They can be very dramatic and beautiful. I’ve seen them with tints of purple, or even completely black.

I was going to say callas, too. I think dahlias come in some really deep colors, too.

If you want to go for a really exotic look, Bat Orchids are absolutely GORGEOUS. I’m kinda partial because I love any and every type of orchid, but I would KILL to have a Bat Orchid. They’re a really deep purplish-maroonish-black. The leaves and stems are also dark in color. They’re so unusual and mysterious, but they might be slightly pricey. When I looked into getting a plant for myself, it was $60! :-o However, it was also a 10 year-old plant and about 5 feet in diameter! If you love growing plants, maybe you could buy a plant and just incorporate that into the ceremony; I think it’s worth it.

The blooms have “whiskers” coming out of the center with tiny flower-like blooms at the end of them! Pictures don’t do them justice, but here are some links:

Good luck!

Black feathers, black pearls and dark crystals would also be fun and sexy/romantic.

There are several varieties of dark tulips, too. Try Black Parrot, African Queen, Black Diamond, or Black Hero. As usual, these are more dark-red than true-black, but will go along with your color scheme.

Also, there are black hollyhocks. They are a deep blood red black. I like them so much I’m getting a tattoo of one!

Hi,
I am getting married myself & I am using a black & white theme. I have found the beautiful black queen of night tulips. I plan on using them in my bouquet,.

I was looking through the same question and I found Penny Black Nemophila gorgeous. Black Mourning Bride (while the name may seem a bit woebegone) is very pretty as well. Aside from the others mentioned, that’s all I have to add.
