Wedding Registries

October 30th, 2006 @ 12:53 pm by Miss Sunflower

Just out of curiousity…for those of you who are already registered, how many stores are you registered at? One, two, three, four+. Four+ sounds like a lot, but I’ve been getting different kinds of input from everyone.

I’m registered at:
Amazon.com–because they have a good selection of things from many stores and they usually have better prices. Macy’s color selection of Fiestaware sucks!
Target–because we really want some camping supplies and general things
Macy’s–because my grandparents and great aunts won’t go to Target and they won’t do anything over the internet
Crate&Barrel–because they have some glasses I really like, but I haven’t registered for anything I really need there and I’m not really mentioning it unless my other fill up.

We only registered at four places because of specific showers:

Target and Bed, Bath, and Beyond because they have the best and most reasonable supply of need-to-have things.

We registered at Sears for a Honeydew Shower for him–they have a great selection of tools and camping gear.

And my ladies at work are throwing me a Pampered Chef shower so I needed to register there for that.

Otherwise, it’d just be Target and Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

We aren’t registering. Our guests’ presence at our wedding is their gift!

Target and Dillards for those that must go to a store.
Amazon.com for those who will order online.

Can we get a 0? Not registering. I don’t have the time, I don’t like feeling obligated to shop off people’s registries, and I want our guests to feel like we want their presence, not their presents.

I don’t know if we’ll register when the time comes. We’re buying everything for our apartment right now (before we even move out), so we won’t really need much to start our home…maybe we’ll register at Target & BBB, just for furnishings and whatnot…that’s if we register at all. Because I agree with Laura. I don’t want people to think they HAVE to buy us something, or think that’s why we’re inviting them.

For all you non-registering people - do you know people who have done this? My brother and (now) SIL did this for the same reasons you describe and all it did is cause chaos. People WANTED to give them gifts, and did anyway, but it was all their tastes instead of what the couple wanted. I agree that I definitely felt weird about the idea of asking for presents, but we put a little note on our registry page saying that their “coming to the wedding is gift enough”…but if they want to get something it might as well be something we’ll use! We’re not expecting to get all that much from our registry & we’re totally cool with that, plus everyone will have to travel to get to our wedding anyway, but in my experience most guests WANT to give gifts whether the couple registers or not, so might as well give them a little guidance. ;-)
