My grandmother might cringe if she discovers the amount of money my mom was willing to lay down for the “perfect” veil. I mean, it is just simply an embellished piece of tulle!
At my dress try-on at Monique Lhuillier, I was fitted with a beautiful gold sash to finish off my dress, but the tears didn’t come streaming out of my mom’s eyes until they plopped a gorgeous cathedral length veil with ribbon edges on top of my head. It was the first time I felt like a bride as opposed to a dress model… it was the veil that made the ensemble complete. According to my notes, this amazing piece of tulle was a Toni Federici “Elaine” and at ML, they sell it for $405. My mom was ready to pay in cash for the veil right then and there, but I felt silly about it until we checked out other options.
We went and visited the headquarters of Erica Koesler in North Hollywood that afternoon to see what the small outlet offered and if any other veils caught my eye. While I didn’t find a discounted veil that I loved, I did find a small gold veil comb that was a bargain at $35. They offered to make me a custom veil for $135 that would mimic my desired look (butterfly edging, cathedral length, ivory with 1″ ivory satin ribbon), but mom was still hung up on the original and was worried our bargain copy wouldn’t be exactly the same.
I returned home with my comb and started researching veils online. In just a simple search for “Toni Federici,” I happened upon Dori Anne Veils, which is a bay area shop that I’d heard about on the Knot many times. I sent in their simple inquiry form, and within 30 minutes I received a price quote back on my super veil for only $280 + shipping (if I don’t choose to pick it up myself). And just like that, my veil search is over! My mom is estatic, since she’s saving $100, and I’m happy that I found myself a little bargain. Google searches are never overrated!
