Witty Wedding Words

October 31st, 2006 @ 10:26 am by Mrs. Strawberry

For our wedding programs, I thought it would be nice to include a quote or two about love. And be as it may, I am no poet. Rather, I’ve decided to rely on the works of John Bartlett. Here are a few samplings of his work. “True love is like ghosts, which everybody talks about and few have seen.” “Love me tender, love me sweet, never let me go.” Bartlett’s Book of Love Quotations would also be ideal to use in writing your own vows or in giving a toast!

Isn’t that “Love me tender” line also in Elvis’ “Love Me Tender” song? I was JUST listening to it on my iPod!! Awesome.

Amber & Miss Strawberry,
Those quotes aren’t written by Bartlett. He just gathers them by topic. Love Me Tender was sung by Elvis, but the words and music were written by Vera Matson, and that’s who should be credited with the quote. The “True love is like ghosts” is by Francois de La Rochefoucauld, who was a writer from the 1600s.
