Alrighty folks… I need your opinions!
The DJ I’m considering offers a motorized light show for an additional $75 with his services. Have any of you been to a wedding where they had a lightshow along with the music? What did you think?
My initial thoughts: could look cool, maybe it will really liven up the dance floor? But on the other hand it could look tacky - maybe a little too prom-y or club-ish??
In theory, anyway. That’s why we decided to do a proper rehearsal at the Met Club the night before the wedding. Make our wedding party earn their dinners and all that.
My wedding planners (Jennifer and Shira of the Wedding Library) were at the rehearsal to make sure everything went off without a hitch. As it turns out, the rehearsal was a *great* idea, because we realized that the way we had planned the processional kind of fucked up was less than ideal.
The dilemma was, our current setup put my brother (a groomsman) standing furthest on the outside of the bridal party. My sister and Mr. Daisy’s brother were already cool on the inside–since Mr. Daisy’s bro was best man and my sister was one of my maids of honor–but we wanted my brother with the rest of the family.

Mr. Kiwi has two wedding related jobs: deciding where we’re having the ceremony (because he’s Catholic and I’m not religious), and finding the music. Since Mr. Kiwi works at a Catholic school, we had two places to consider - either his school’s church or the large white tent in the back of our reception venue. As of two days ago, he decided to forgo the church wedding and just get married in the reception venue’s tent. It’s only $650.00 dollars to have it for the hour, and now we just need an officiant to make our ceremony plans complete.
Now, while the word “tent” usually doesn’t usually give you warm fuzzies, this one is cute. It has windows on the side as seen here:

Thanks to everyone who entered the Share a Vendor/Website contest. The winner of the Oxo Salad Spinner is Jenn! Congrats! We’ll be shipping it out to you this week.

Last night I had planned on turning this into a contest, but once I started pulling everything out, I didn’t know what to do. See I have 6 binders, organized according to category, filled with pages I’ve cut out from wedding magazines and placed in page protectors since high school.
They have pages upon pages of inspiration on flowers, diy projects, cakes, favors, real weddings - a best of 100+ wedding magazines.

As a tip, there’s a fabulous store Iomoi that sells personalized stationery items. Mr. Pearl and I got our thank you cards from there at an amazing discount (they were half priced when we bought them) and in our wedding colors!
This is an example of their fun, fresh designs:

They’ve moved more into personalized announcements, notecards, invitations, etc., but a lot of their pre-printed cards (like the ones above) are at a deep discount under “Tag Sale”.
You guys loved Threadless so much I thought I’d share another cool t-shirt site I stumbled upon today via Shirt Snob. I’m a total nostalgia buff so I love these tees from Nerdy Shirts!

We started to think about the flowers for the wedding. My sister has worked at a nursery for several summers now and does beautiful work, so she will be doing the bouquets and boutonnieres while the arrangements for the reception etc. will be done by a florist (TBD).
I thought the boutonnieres would be an easy place to start the flower search. Flowers that I like for the girls so far are: white peonies, lily of the valley, and calla lilies.
So here are some beautiful ideas for inspiration I found for the guys…

Today’s open question about engagement rings provided some interesting responses in the comments, so I thought we should definitely do a reader buzz on it!
Would you prefer to have more input on the selection of the ring or would you prefer to be surprised?
Weddingbee reader Jenny sent us a link to Kuler, a new web-based Adobe program that helps you put together color schemes. Users also create, share and vote on color schemes on the site so it’s a great site to get some color scheme inspiration. This one titled Earthy Pastels by mprewitt is a popular one right now:
Kuler offers color rules you can base color schemes on. The following are using a base color of red.

Ihateweddings.com is so mean…just reading some of the horrible things that people were saying made me cry.
I can understand not being all *that* excited about someone’s wedding, and I even agree with some things they are saying on the site, but they just went waaay over the top :(.
Thanksgiving Day for most people is a time to gorge. You eat, you laugh, you lie on the couch and rub your swollen belly. This year, we had a full week of non-stop eating — we squeezed in FOUR wedding tastings on top of the normal holiday fare and my mom’s compulsive need to feed people whenever they set foot in her house. Here’s a little recap of the tastings. They went so fast, I wish I could do them again!
1) Rehearsal Dinner, Lazy K Bar Guest Ranch
Mr. Lily’s Mom and my family picked out the space without him ever seeing it. This was his first time visiting the ranch and he loved it as much as the rest of us (phew). They simply could not be nicer there. If you live in Tucson and are wanting to host a wedding or rehearsal, see the Stardance section because it is so beautiful. And the food was awesome. They sat us down in the dining room and brought out more plates of food than I can even remember. BBQ ribs, chicken, fish, jalapeno corn bread (my personal favorite — yum), the softest biscuits on earth (Mr. Lily’s favorite), corn, stuffed potatoes, cowboy beans, cole slaw, salad, peach cobbler, brownies… I know I am forgetting something, but who knows what? There was not one bad dish. And did I mention how nice everyone is there? We even got to see a baby horse that was born the day before while we were there. This was a fun, fun night!

Now that our wedding is over, it’s time for vendor reviews. In addition to blogging on Weddingbee, I’m also a member of other wedding related forums. This got me thinking - should I mention to a few of my favorite vendors that I’ve raved about them and rated them? Has anyone (bees or not) mentioned to their vendors that you are involved in a wedding blog or wedding website? If so, did you mention it prior to the wedding or after? What were your reasons and how did you let them know? Or, are you a vendor who wished more people let you know they posted about your services, good or bad?
