About Mrs. Blueberry

Detail Oriented/Big Picture

November 1st, 2006 @ 10:29 am by Mrs. Blueberry

I’ve always been a very detail-oriented person, sometimes to a fault–in fact, I’ve been known to lose sight of the big picture because of my obsession with details. I believe that’s explained with the old adage “can’t see the forest through the trees.” Well, that’s me. And it has stretched into my wedding planning, too. I haven’t forgotten the real big picture, the fact that I’m getting married to Mr. Blueberry, but I must admit sometimes I lose my vision of the reception as a whole in favor of the tiny stuff–what kind of wine glasses to rent, the precise color of the fabric for my table runners. I get so wrapped up in one aspect until it’s done, then I move on to another little project…

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that’s not always a bad thing. When browsing photos on Flickr or Xanga or Knot bios or wherever, you can always tell a detail oriented bride–in any given photo you can just see the care that the bride has put into the details almost everyone else would overlook.

But not everyone is like that…some people care more about the big picture and less about how it gets done or with what specific elements. These weddings are always beautiful, too.

Regarding your wedding, which would you say you are (or were, or will be)?

I was the detail oriented one and Mr. Bee was definitely big picture. It helped balance wedding planning out. :)

Having had to work within a small budget for most of my life, I’ve learned that details can be put together to make things look far more expensive than they really were. Just because of this I tend to focus more on little details when it lets me get away with doing things a bit more cheaply.

i’ve come to realize that i am not nearly as detail oriented as other brides!! in fact, we’re not even having most of the little details (menus, table #’s, seating cards, guestbook, favors, etc)

i’d say i’m more of a big picture bride. i think a lot of that attitude comes from having a small wedding and knowing that our wedding is going to be beautiful no matter what just because of the location.

i’m a combination of both. i see how the big picture influences the details that i know i’ll obsess over. though this spills over into everyday life. if you want me to believe the overall idea, you gotta make sure you’ve covered the details.

though my attention to detail not withstanding, i’m also known to throwing that all out and just going with the flow of things.
