Feedback Please

November 1st, 2006 @ 11:29 am by Mrs. Bee

We’ve spent a long time considering different ad units here at Weddingbee. I love that the site has a clean look overall, and we’ve tried to keep it that way. So far, the only ads have been Google text ads on one side of the page, and small graphic bricks on the other.

We’ve just added an extra Google text ad, above the comments on the comments page. You can check it out by clicking here… hopefully it isn’t too bad. I hate how some sites bombard you with flashing banner ads, and that’s the last thing we want to do here.

Is the new Google text ad ok?

~~~
Edit: Thanks for all your feedback. Unfortunately, we can’t put a graphic ad in this slot - we’d have to raise the prices of the ads, and that’s not an option at this point. But we will look into shorter versions of the Google ad… and definitely move the ad above the “# Responses to Post” text (as soon as our webmaster gets the chance).
And thanks for the feedback on the Urban Botanic image. That ad was in the process of going live, and it should be working now. :)
I feel like it’s a bit too vertical - could you have it be the same overall size but wider & shorter? Not sure if you have control over that or not, but I just don’t like the feeling of having to do the extra scrolling QUITE so much. But I think it’s fine to have an ad there. Maybe a graphic ad or two would be a better size though? And then your eye could more easily distinguish between the ad & the comments text…
Smaller would be better. And I like the previous comment about graphic ads better than this large Google ad.
Honestly, it doesn’t bother me much–I just scroll right by it. But that also means I’m also not likely to look at it. I pay much more attention to the sidebar ads.
I would also prefer a graphic ad over the google ad. But both are fine.
And just so you know, the Urban Botanic ad isn’t working for my computer- the link works fine but the image is broken
I agree… smaller and graphic would be less intrusive…
my eyes are trained to weed out all ads on all pages… the ONLY thing i absolutely hate - pop up ads. pop up ads are so obnoxious, blocking out what you want to see and making you close out of it…
other than that (bc pop up blockers dont weed out everything!) any ads on any page dont really bother me..
on a semi unrelated note - what happened to the tags? did i miss something? I remember at first thinking that I would never really use them… but ive noticed that I use them to refer back to certain posts. (teeth, for the crest whitestrips review for example.)
ck - we’ll never ever ever have pop up ads!
as far as tags, we’ve been having major problems with our new server. We moved recently because they offered advanced features we wanted to utilize for new products we’re building, but it’s not working out. We had to remove tags for the site to run faster, but we are moving to yet another server this week and tags will return. :)
So sorry about the inconvenience - the server move has been a bit of a nightmare. :(
It doesn’t bother me much. I like the idea of keeping the size but making it shorter, wider. I LOVE that it’s not flashing and screaming at me…
I also like the suggestion of placing it about “X Responses to “feedback please.”
It’s OK, I guess. Fewer ads are always better, of course, but I understand you’ve gotta make some $$. I think I’ll like it a lot more once it’s moved up a bit, above the “X responses…”
oh, i just noticed that there’s not a dotted line all the way around the ad. i think it’d be nicer to have a consistant dotted line around it.
Miss Bird of Paradise,
There *is* a consistent dotted line all the way around the ad. The issue you’re describing is a bug in Internet Explorer 6. If you minimize your IE window and then maximize it again, you will see how it’s supposed to look. This bug doesn’t occur in Firefox or IE7, so you can also upgrade to one of those browsers to avoid this bug.
