Open Question: Trio & Scholarship Fund

November 1st, 2006 @ 1:44 pm by Open Question

First of all, I LOVE your site. I am distracted by it every day at work. :)

I have a couple of questions that I am hoping everyone in the hive can help me out with. First, I really want to book a jazz trio or something during our cocktail hour, but am not having much luck finding anyone that is reasonably priced. Any suggestions? The wedding is in NYC next July.

Also, my fiance and I are planning on paying tribute to his brother who passed away only a few years ago by contributing money to a scholarship fund created in his name in lieu of favors. Does anyone have any creative ideas for making this known at the reception, rather than just printed on cards?

Thanks so much!! I can’t wait to hear everyone’s suggestions.

Best regards,

Sarah

Sarah, i’m using Elan Artists for my ceremony and they are great to work with and (i think) reasonably priced.

I was thinking a framed picture of FI’s brother, faded with the text about the donation over the picture.

You could print the info on parchment-like paper, and roll it up in a scroll (kind of like a scholarship or degree!) and leave one on every plate setting. You’ll probably have a lot left over (I assume people would read it and be done with it) but that is something that could be recycled and would photograph well.

The nice thing about honoring someone in this way, is that you don’t have to do a traditional favor. If you do print it on a plain, open card it is absolutely the thought that counts!

We used Double Down swing band at our wedding and they were amazing, and much more reasonably priced than bands from those big companies. During our cocktail hour the guitarist played jazz and then during dinner the bass and sax played more. They might be able to do something similar for you.
