Mission Impossible

November 2nd, 2006 @ 3:25 pm by Mrs. Strawberry

I am not a crafty person. Creative, yes. Crafty….no. I don’t have the patience to cut and measure and glue and all of the other prerequisites that come along with doing a wedding project. I am determined however to make a valiant effort. I purchased cardboard letters in the shape of an H to put on each of the tables, and then decoupaged them in pink and brown polka dot tissue paper.

It doesn’t look too hot. I don’t know how to decoupage. It’s sad. It’s pathetic.

maybe tissue paper isn’t the way to go? it might be too light and airy to work with glue.

I think it’s very cute :-) No one’s projects turn out just right the first time–just keep with it!

Can’t wait to see your next effort!

We used those exact letters in place of table numbers (from Paper Source, right?) We spray painted them with an antique gold finish and they were perfect.

I found a video tutorial on how to do this. The tutorial is from paper source…hope it helps.

Great idea! Give it another try. Just don’t rush your paper application process. I used to cover empty wine bottles with pretty tissue paper for diy vases. It’s a similar idea- tightly apply your pieces of tissue, smooth out any wrinkles, and move on to the next section. Spray paint would be easier- but I would create a pink base coat and then create a cute line pattern by laying down tape (think pinstripe) and then spraying over with brown.

the colors look good.. it’s just a technical issue of getting the paper to stay on.. not bad at all! keep up the good work!

Miss Strawberry you are so cute. :) We need a Seattle get together at some point… I’m not even engaged and I’m elated to have a weddingbee nearby. :)

How about those fake wines (with the tiny flowers) that you can wrap around the Hs. that would be hot!

I think that looks super cute!!! I agree with hm above, just go over it with Mod Podge. I’ve used it to cover shoeboxes with tissue paper, and it takes a couple coats (let dry between apps) but it works perfectly! Good luck!
