He proposed exactly 1 year, 1 month and 6 days after our first date (it's the only part of his proposal speech that I remember), and we're planning long-distance from Los Angeles for a July wedding in my hometown of Monterey, CA. I have a passion for all things "cool, cute and quirky" and I enjoy video games, reading blogs (WeddingBee, trashy celeb, consumer & political) and crafting in my spare time, if I have any!

Evolution Of A Motif

November 3rd, 2006 @ 1:57 pm by Mrs. Lemon

motif: a single or repeated design or color

In planning out ideas for our wedding, I knew I wanted a strong motif. Since I have a healthy fascination with design elements, I set out early to find the perfect element to define our wedding. At first, I looked toward elements that defined our wedding location: sand, sea, sea otters, spanish tiles, cypress trees? Nothing seemed to stick. Then I though about us: our monogram (KMC), our hobbies? Nothing either. What could really define “us” and be identifiable to everyone else at the wedding?

And then…BAM! What about featuring the spot where Mr. Lemon proposed??? [I keep postponing an entry about it since nothing I write seems to capture the magic properly.] Our location (the Rose Bowl) was so unique, and the spot was so perfect that it suddenly became the obvious choice for inspiration. So, I started fiddling around with my graphics programs and suddenly I had our motif:

So far, it’s been incorporated in our invitations and favor boxes, and while I don’t plan on it being absolutely everywhere, I do think about how I can plop it in where I can.

having a motif really makes having a unifying theme easy. we took the leaf/fern motif off our invitations and put it on our menus, programs, placecards…

our leaf didn’t really have a meaning, but love the idea of incorporating the rose into your wedding. :)

I like the idea of a motif! I happen to work in Pasadena :) Great place to have a wedding.

I have been thinking about incorporating a horseshoe as a motif…because of the “lucky date” of 777 and the fact the FI is Irish and luck of the Irish blah, blah, blah. :O) We shall see if that materializes!

The rose is perfect–good call!

Cute motif! Ours is branches and I’ve been trying to stick it in anywhere that it wont look odd or overdone. I designed a monogram with a branchy thing inbetween our first initials and had it made into an embosser, so it’s an easy way to incorporate it into anything paper! :-)

We’re having all-roses too for our motif! I like them tightly arranged (no fillers), pretty much like the bride’s bouquet in Weddingbee’s logo. We’ll incorporate them in the cake, favors and of course, the floral arrangements.
