Sentimental Crap

November 3rd, 2006 @ 11:46 am by Mrs. Butterfly

I don’t really consider myself to be that sentimental. I don’t keep movie stubs of first dates, I don’t keep old yearbooks for memories (I barely know where my college diploma is… hmm, I should find that), etc. I was just never good at that stuff.

But today I looked at my counter, which counts down to my wedding day, and my heart gave a little jump. I can’t believe I’m actually getting married this month! So I started thinking about all of our years together. Whenever I get like this, I go to my email account.

As of today, I have 1,300 emails from Mr. Butterfly. I have the very first email he wrote to me, which I love. I have our first email fight on record. I have the first silly rhyme he ever wrote me (of course, he no longer does that). Some days, I will spend hours just reading these emails, remembering all of the things that we’ve been through together. All of the ups and downs are in these emails…and I never want to forget them.

I guess underneath it all, I really am a sentimental fool. pleased.gif

I used to keep everything thinking that I’d scrapbook it all one day… but I know the reality is I’ll never have the time so I don’t keep every thing like I used to. But like you one thing I would never delete is his emails. For our first anniversary, he printed out all the emails that were significant in our relationship. Since we were long distance, we had a lot o emails. ;)

Poor Mr. Bee… he must be one of the most talked about husbands online. hahaha….

I’m the same way with emails. FI and I emailed quite a bit when we started dating and also for a week before we met and every time I re-read those old emails it reminds me of how excited and incredibly giddy I was to have met this wonderful man!

I’ve never kept stubs, things like that- even though I’m a bit of a pack rat. The one thing I DO keep? All the flowers he gives me, I hang them upside down in our closet. I have NO idea what to do with them after they’re dried, though!

I’ve held on to all the ticket stubs from the movies we’ve seen together. Our first movie was Chocolate w/ Johnny Depp. We even saw Unfaithful together. Afterwards, he wrote me a nice note and signed it “faithfully yours”…lol. I made a shadow box w/ our Chocolat ticket stubs and some other places we’ve been to together like De La Guarda and the Mies in Berlin exhibit at Moma.

Miss Kiwi, you could make potpourri out of the petals. I heard about one bride who kept all the flowers she had ever gotten from her FI, made potpourri and gave it to guests as favors, I thought that was pretty cool.

I meant to type “Chocolat” not “Chocolate”.

I guess I’m not very sentimental. I did have a box with a hotel key card from our first vacation together, stubs from movies we saw together, and cards he wrote me with flowers.

Then I lost it in one of my many moves.

Now, I just keep cards from flowers he sends me. Like right now, I have a card in my desk that he wrote me on my first day of teaching that talks about what an amazing teacher and person I am. And that was over a year ago.

i also have every email my bf sent me…plus saved a lot of our aim convos…i don’t know why [i lost a few after my computer crashed] but i do enjoy going back and reading them…especially since you can see the development of our relationship [from friends to couple]. plus i have everything he’s ever given me. which only helps feed my pack-rat like addiction…the same addiction he’s found annoying in his parents. lol.

but on the flip side, he’s saved everything i’ve given him too. so it’s nice to have a complete history :-)

I had kept all the flowers he’d gotten me (I’d told him long before that flowers were appreciated more than silly trinkets, etc.) but threw them all away (what was I going to do with them!) when we moved in together.

I do have every card he’s given me–some left at the sorority, some sent in the mail when we were long distance, some for no reason! LOVE those.

I do have all the movie stubs–somewhere. In fact, FI now keeps things for me, knowing I will scrapbook them! i.e. Plane tickets, pamphlets from tourist excursions, concert tickets, game tickets, etc.

I don’t consider myself to be overly sentimental though, let that be known. :O)

We both save everything he saves a little more then i do but its fun especially him being in th navy.. i made him a little scrapbook with pictures and tickets from everywhere we’ve been because he just left for 6 months. We also email a lot more becuase hes usally out at sea but its the small things like emails that keep our relationship communication special and its always fun to go back and read them :)

i took a tin box that he gave to me (once bearing cookies!) and I keep all of our notes, ticket stubs, ribbons, pictures… i know it was a blast for me to go through my mom’s hope chest and see all of the letters my dad wrote to her so i knew i want my children to have the same gift.

Like Mrs. Bee, I used to keep everything thinking I’d scrapbook it all. I don’t save as much of the stuff anymore, but I have a personal journal I keep where I record memories that I don’t want anyone else to read.. Other than that we have a gazillion pictures.

I keep everything. I’m a packrat! Luckily, I started scrapbooking this year, and I plan to have scrapbooks for every one of our years together…:) I enjoy it, and it’s a good “quiet-time” activity. Just hopefully my skill level will increase as the years go by! :D

But I have pictures of course, movie stubs, tickets from everything imaginable, along with flyers/ maps/etc. When we go to a new fun place, I even scout out pamphlets, and get extras, so I’ll have extras to cut up and put in the scrapbook. I may be a little crazy, but it’ll be great in the end. Andrew doesn’t even know about the scrapbook I started for 2006, and I plan on surprising him in early 2007 with it! :)

i had the first 3 bouquets of roses and their fillers given by my bf-now-hubby carefully dried and plucked, and put them in a small wooden box lined with rice paper which came as one of the bouquet wrappers. and i’d tie the box with a ribbon.

Once he chanced upon the box, and after my explanation, his eyes actually wetted! :)
