Airline Regulations on Liquids & Gels

November 6th, 2006 @ 11:56 am by Mrs. Bluebell

This has been posted before, but in honor of Mr. Bluebell’s flying across the country tomorrow, I thought I’d double check the current restrictions on bringing liquids & gels onto an airplane for any weddingbee-ers with honeymoons or other travel coming up soon!

First off: Non-hazardous liquids & gels can be brought in any quantity in your checked baggage.

If you want to take (small amounts) of liquids & gels in your carry-on luggage, you must follow these rules:

1. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be in three-ounce or smaller containers. Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. Each container must be three ounces or smaller.

2. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. Gallon size bags or bags that are not zip-top such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed. Each traveler can use only one, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag.

3. Each traveler must remove their quart-sized plastic, zip-top bag from their carry-on and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items.

Exceptions are made for prescription medications, eye drops, breast milk, and a few other items.

Check here for the full list of regulations.

Happy flying!

I was going to mention that…
I was traveling last week and saw that they will search your carry-on bag if they see any liquids/gels/aerosoles in it (& then proceed to confiscate those items if they’re over 3oz and not in a the ziploc bag)!
