Entertaining Guests

November 6th, 2006 @ 2:52 pm by Mrs. Violet

If everything goes as anticipated, Mr. Violet and I will be moving a few months before our wedding which means we’ll be shopping for home stuff much earlier. We weren’t planning on having a big registry because coming from a Chinese family, gold and money are usually the gifts. But a recent dinner at a friend’s place really inspired me - hopefully one day I’ll have table settings just as nice. Here are some of my picks:

Just for decoration - we saw so many of these Eiffel Towers in Paris, but alas, we didn’t bring any home. It would be nice to have this somewhere in our home as a reminder of our engagement.

Haiku Platter - great for serving appetizers

Shanghai Dinnerware - I’m not much of a red person, but I love the boldness of this red piece and the writing on it.

Simplicity Wine Glasses - 12 for $21.95. Mr. Violet and I love wine. We actually have a very nice 4 piece set of red wine goblets that cost a pretty penny, but I try not to use them. I’m a huge klutz… so I’d rather not cry over broken expensive glasses.

When it comes to dinnerware, I like simple - the plainer the better. White plates will always match the different table settings one might have.

Vineyard Runners - I’m not much into table linens, but runners I like. I really like organic wood pieces, so I hope we can find a rustic looking dining room table (hoping to find it at an antique shop). A runner would dress up the table yet also expose the natural wood. Here is where I would add in my vintage touches.

Napkins - It’s extra work (to clean that is), but I really think it adds such a nice touch rather than having your guests use paper napkins. The only problem with these is that they’re white… so if you have messy guests, make sure you can wash these right away.

So it seems from my selections Mr. Violet I should be okay when it comes to decor. I do appreciate clean lines but with an added vintage and rustic flair. I think if I only do splashes of it, our different tastes can definitely mesh together.
