Groom’s Cakes

November 6th, 2006 @ 5:21 pm by Mrs. Raspberry

I have been doing a little research for groom’s cake options for my sweetie. He is very into cycling, foreign policy and good beer, but none of these are great for a cake. Or so I thought until I found these:

Now, these are a little different from what I would have for Mr. Raspberry, but all still completely creative at the same time.

Here are a couple of other cakes I found too:

I’m also a little confused… I thought the groom’s cake was for the night of the rehearsal dinner?

When are you serving the groom's cake?

I think I’m going to opt out of having a grooms cake in order to save money.

Ha! That’s my cake - the Texas Tech one covered with strawberries! Where did you find it?

Our grooms cake was devoured - none was left. It was chocolate and scrumptious and we served it at the reception.

sorry bout that! polls aren’t working right now so we took it down, but they’ll be back up as soon as possible. :)

At the last wedding we went to, there was a groom’s cake next to the wedding cake. I asked FI if he wanted one, he said that he wasn’t that interested and would rather save the money.

We served the groom’s cake at the wedding. I surprised FI with a chocolate caramel cake designed as a drum. Everyone loved it.

the groom’s cake is traditionally served at the wedding. it’s usually a richer option like chocolate with chocolate icing or something. we’ve decided, however, to serve mr bop’s at our rehearsal dinner since we don’t have a large wedding guest list.

The southern tradition is also to serve it during the wedding, and it usually has its own table and is a chocolate cake.

Ours will be some sort of sugar-free cake, as my future grandmother-in-law and my father are both diabetic, and my FH thought it’d be nice to do that for them. :)

I’m from the south. And, traditionally, the Groom’s cake was a southern tradition. It is typically served at the wedding reception. However, you may serve it wherever. I always thought that it was good because it gave guests an alternative to the wedding cake!

Interestingly enough, I was just looking at something about this. My favorite cookbook is a 1962 edition of the Betty Crocker New Picture cookbook. It says that the Groom’s cake was the original wedding cake, and the white confection we now call the wedding cake was called the Brides cake. Which makes some sense, the foofy white cake is similar to a white bridal gown. Aren’t traditions interesting?

We haven’t made any real plans yet, but I’d like to have a cheesecake wedding cake–my mom made her fabulous cheesecake in a three-tiered version for my sister’s wedding–and chocolate cupcake “groom’s cakes.” People could choose which they liked! And my fiance doesn’t like cheesecake. ;)

we served ours at the rehearsal dinner and it was a huge hit and a surprise for mr. bee. everyone loved it, and i wanted it to have its own spotlight during the rehearsal dinner as opposed to the wedding day.

it’s just recently that i even learn about what the groom’s cake was all about. i think having it at the rehearsal dinner would be a good idea… it’s like the pre-party tease.

I surprise my husband with a Super Mario Bros cake; which was served at the wedding.

Our original plan was not to even have a wedding cake since we planned a dessert bar with cheesecakes, bars, and cookies but I loved the idea of a groom’s cake!!

If we have one, I think it’ll be at the rehearsal dinner. We don’t have a large guest list, and the “wedding cake” will really consist of a small cake at each table. So we don’t really need to add more dessert into the mix!

i’m plotting a super secret groom’s cake with my wedding planner — it will be a surprise! i think we will serve it at the wedding; we’re still trying to decide.

Nony Mouse

Groom’s cake is a southern tradition. It can be used to cut up and send home, as favors to those who couldn’t come, to be put under the pillows of the unwed ladies for them to dream of their groom, served seperately at the rehersal dinner, or at the reception along with the bride’s cake.
