Bliss Weddings Market has donated a Me & My Honey Scrapbook Kit to give to one of our readers!
Miss Butterfly blogged about how much she loved the Let Me Tell You Bride-to-Be Scrapbook (they’re both made by the same company), and the Me & My Honey scrapbook (which won “best new product” at the National Stationery Show this year) is just as cute. I love both these products because they make it easy for anyone to record their wedding and honeymoon memories.
For this contest, we want you tell us about your favorite vacation that you’ve taken with your significant other. Where did you go and what made it so memorable?
Please comment below to enter. You have until Wednesday 11:59 pm to enter, and the winner will be determined by a random number selector. Good luck!

The best trip that my honey and I took together was to Mexico early this year. We have gone on many smaller trips together, but Mexico was our first major trip together.
It was great to relax on the beach and sip margaritas together while we hung in the hammocks.
Pure bliss. ![]()
The best trip we have taken (and the only one we’ve taken without additional friends or family with us) was to Estes Park, Colorado this summer for my best friend’s wedding this past July. We got to spend plenty of quality time together in the car (driving from eastern KS) and had a lot of fun. But the best part of the weekend was when my FI had a little too much to drink and let it slip that he was planning on proposing to me by my birthday, which was less than 2 months away at the time. I’m not one for really big surprises, so I loved knowing that it was going to happen sometime soon. I was still a little surprised when he finally did pop the question just over a month later!
Our best trip was our first (this time) valentine’s day. He surprised me by telling me what to pack, and what the weather would be. It ended up a San Diego trip, where I could pick the place- sea world or the zoo. I chose sea world. THEN, the day we showed up at the hotel- they had given us twin beds, they were out of the kings! So I laughed and laughed, but he looked so hurt, I stopped. I got my karma, though. While he was spiffing up for our romantic movie/dinner date, I was jumping on the beds. Yes, I’m seven.
Well, I fell and broke my wrist. Whatever, it was still a great planned weekend!!
We went to Eureka Springs, Arkansas on our first spring break together. It was our first real vacation together and the first vacation for either of us without our parents. We did all the usual tourist-y stuff and had an absolutely amazing time! I’ll probably make a post about it pretty soon ![]()
our best vacation was this past april when we went to playa del carmen in mexico. it was our first romantic vacation together since we’ve dated….. it was our best vacation because that’s when my honey proposed to me!!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INFJmlYYiQA
we got it on video too!!! it was during our snorkeling trip. and i had no idea what was going on!
i live in nj and my home home is in california. so in august, my then bf and i took a trip together to california. we then crammed my parents, my younger sis, and the 2 of us into a car and drove for 4 hrs to vegas. we saw celine dion in concert that night and filled our bellies with hot steamed king crab legs. it’s kind of weird that my now FI went on vaykay with my entire family to vegas, but it warmed my heart SO much just be together. what made it even better, was that that trip was when my FI asked my parents for my hand. (he asked my parents while i was in the shower.) it’ll forever be a memorable trip.

i’m not eligible to enter hehe… but our best trip was our honeymoon. we stayed in barcelona for 3 nights and marbella (southern spain) for 4 nights where we drove to nearby cities like granada and sevilla.
i’d love to go back to barcelona one day - i wasn’t crazy about the food, but i loved the city.
The best trip my honey and I have taken was our trip to Yosemite 2 months ago. Our families both visited Yosemite every year while we were growing up but neither of us had been for about 10 years so we decided to plan a trip. While camping in Yosemite with my sister and brother-in-law we decided to go up to Glacier Point to see the view and take some pictures. We had taken about a million pictures and I was ready to leave, but Mark wanted a few more with half Dome between us. We faced Half Dome and then each other and before I knew it he was down on one knee. I heard him say something like “Brookie wookie, I have enjoyed the past 10 months getting to know you and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” It took a minute to realize what he was doing. He caught me completely by surprise! I started crying and he had to ask me for my answer. And the answer was- YES! Mark’s proposal far exceeded anything I had hoped or dreamed for. I told him early on in our relationship that I wanted pictures of my proposal (not a re-enactment) and we have not only that but video. I am so excited to spend the rest of my life married to my best friend!
This is an easy answer for me.
It’s the trip that we became engaged on.
Last march, in Jamaica, while snorkeling in the Caribbean Sea, he flashed a ring in front of my mask. When I came up, he popped the question, and of course, I said yes. We spent the rest of the trip laying on the beach and sipping Dirty Bananas by day and swaying in our favorite hammock by night. We loved it so much that we really wanted to bring our love for each other Jamaica full circle–we will be returning for our honeymoon.
We are planning our very first trip. He is taking me to meet his family for Thanksgiving. I am so excited and also very nervous. I have been against overnight trips since we aren’t married, but this is the exception…of course.
what hasn’t been the best trip?
at first i thought, oh, vegas. cause that was fabulous and i came back engaged
but then i thought no, our second new year’s trip together- when we went to sandestin to stay at a wonderful resort with some friends. then i thought further. i think it has to be our first trip together. he was living in another state and came in a few days after christmas. we had planned to drive to austin to hangout with his brother and my friend for new years. we had lots of driving time to talk about everything under the sun. it was awesome. even though it may have been early, we so knew we were each other’s “the one.” it was such a great experience. we went out and watched the star drop. with the excitement of finding each other and energy of the night, it was just magical.
Our best trip was to Zihuatanejo Mexico for a friend’s wedding. We flew there with 2 other couples. He proposed the day after their wedding. Doesn’t get better than that.
Our first big trip together was to Maui and after a blissful week of fun and sun, FI proposed on top of Mt. Haleakala on our last day!
For my birthday, only a few months after we met, he took me to Charleston, SC for a short Vacation during Spring Break. Both of us were students and poor, but we still stayed in a great boutique hotel on King St. After sight-seeing all day we went to a little neighborhood restaurant for a celebration dinner. We ate outside under magnolia trees (I think) that were covered in lights, outdoor heaters, and the greatest food I’ve ever had. This was the first time when I knew for sure it was the right thing not to move back to the west coast, but to stay in the south. I was falling in love…!
This is going to sound so wrong… but it’s the truth. Here goes it:
A couple years ago, my fiance and I took our first vacation together to Las Vegas. We both love some friendly table games and I was looking forward to being pampered at the Mandalay Bay resort. What was supposed to be a quiet relaxing trip, turned into a whirlwind of events… and I guess it’s true when they say, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” — -but this is just too good to share (i’ll leave out the TMI details)
He had taken his ex to vegas many years before and he had a horrible time. I promised that I would make sure he had a great enough time to make up for his last visit.
A few days into our first vacation, we learned that there was an “internet convention” going on in the hotel. Later that night in the lounge, we made friends with some strangers, who later we learned were in the porn industry. There was in fact a “porn” convention going on! Everyone was really friendly and nice, and the director invited my fiance and I to a taping. We had dinner reservations to an Emeril’s restaurant, but we cancelled that to see the taping! We’re so scandalous.
It was actually a lot of fun, and it made for some great stories, and all his friends were envious. It was then when I acquired the “coolest girlfriend ever” status from him and all his friends.
Our best vacation was a camping trip! It was a total surprise which he planned entirely. We went hiking and he cooked me dinner over the campfire. I love a man who cooks. ![]()
Our best trip together was to Aruba this past spring… it was amazing! His parents gave us their timeshare and we paid for our flights… it really made this paradise a reality for us!
So far, there hasn’t been a trip that really stands out as the best. They all had their good and bad moments. here are the top 3:
PARIS, FRANCE: + SO much fun, tons to do, very romantic, great subway system, - food was hit or miss, dollar doesn’t go far
BEIJING & SHANGHAI, CHINA: + Food is totally amazing, great shopping, everything is uber cheap, lots to do, - public toilets are gross, people are rude and brusque, not romantic
NEGRIL, JAMAICA: + it’s paradise!, yummy food, reasonably priced, so laid back and relaxing, seriously the most beautiful place we’ve ever seen, - excursions like horseback riding and waterfalls are 2 hrs away
Hopefully, our Honeymoon will soon become our favorite trip ever. ![]()
So far my favorite trip was our tour of Italy this year. It was like I was on the Amazing Race! My fiance was actually over there for the Cannes Film Festival and we met up later in Nice. Went off to Monaco, Florence and finished in Venice. Venice is absolutely beautiful and so romantic. It was perfect for us to stroll through the city, laughing, eating, getting lost… It so happened that it was also my birthday. We went to dinner near the canal where he surprised me with this amazing white halter dress that I had spotted earlier in the day.
My favorite vacation would have to be our 2-week Australia/New Zealand adventure this past June. We took this vacation right after he graduated from his 2-year graduate program, which was in North Carolina while I stayed in New York. This trip was signficant because it was like saying goodbye to an era of seeing each other only every 3 or 4 weeks and the start of us living together and seeing each other everyday.
It was a great combo of sightseeing (Sydney Opera House, going to the zoo to see koala bears and kangaroos) and adventure (snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef, zorbing, go-carting down the side of a mountain) and just wandering around the streets with each other. Though it rained for a number of days during our trip, we made the best out of it and had so much fun together. Plus, it was so nice not to have to say goodbye after just 2 or 3 days together.
But before we would actually move-in together, we had one more ‘test.’ After our trip, I had to fly back home to NY from Australia by myself (I’m not a good flyer to begin with) while he continued to his travels around Asia for 5 weeks by himself. Saying goodbye as I left for my flight was so hard because I was so worried about him traveling in foreign countries by himself and not being able to contact him whenever I wanted to. In the end, he made it so much better by making every effort to call and email whenever possible.
He made it back in one piece and to make a happy ending even sweeter, within 2 weeks of returning to NY, he purchased my engagement ring and proposed a couple weeks later.
Our first vacation together was definitely my favorite. He had asked me to join him on a vacation after 2 months of dating! It was soon but I couldn’t turn down warm weather and guacamole. We went to a small, secluded resort in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico and had a wonderful 5 days together. It was still early in the relationship so I had butterflies the entire time!
My bf and I will celebrate our 7 month anniversary next month - I know, we’re such a baby couple!
We travel a LOT. We’ve been all over the world together, that’s how I know he is the one. When you can travel to far off lands together well, then you can certainly live together at home. Our first trip together was the most memorable and sealed the deal on our relationship. About 6 weeks into our relationship I had an amazing opportunity do do a favor for a friend. I grew up sailing so when the friend asked I said yes. We delivered a 55′ sail boat (sailed it just the two of us plus one of the owners) from Costa Rica around the point through the Panama Canal. It was the three of us on a small boat for over a week. we encountered dolphins, turtles and 2 humpback whales plus one horrific storm. During that storm I was never more nervous in my entire life but he stayed up on my shift to help me navigate through the shipping channel. He didn’t sleep at all that night. That’s when I knew he was the one.
My favorite vacation (I call it our mini-vacation because it was only one night) was a camping trip that we went on a year ago. It was so memorable because it was my first camping trip ever, and I was able to share it with my fiance, who is an avid camper. It was nice to be out there under the stars, just the two of us. It also stormed that night, which was really romantic.
My favorite vacation with my FI was also our first vacation. We’d been dating for all of 3 months when we decided to take a week and a half long road trip. Definetely, a make it or break it relationship trip. We live in Denver and decided to drive out to to Mammoth Lakes, California to snowboard then drive to Big Sur because he’d never been to the coast and it’s one of my favorite places in the world. We were then going to drive back to Lake Tahoe for more snowboarding and end our trip in Vegas BABY! We were having an incredible time driving down the 101 on a beautiful day after driving all night in some serious fog and sleeping all of 4 hrs. Suddenly, the car began to smoke and completely shut down. We were between Big Sur and Cambria - the middle of absolutely no where. So, we get towed to Cambria which is a small tourist town with 1 repair shop - the worst case scenario on a road trip in another state. The people were horrible no sympathy at all and took 4 days to look at it. So, we were stuck in this totally bizarre little town waiting for my poor little Subaru’s fate. Finally, they called us to let us know they had looked at the car and the mechanic would be back in an hour to talk to us. Didn’t sound good at all. Needless to say, we blew the engine. But my man with his always upbeat positive attitude asked for a phone book found the number to U-Haul rented us a truck with a trailer and drove us to Vegas. The best was rolling into the valet at the MGM in a big ole U-Haul with our Subaru on the back. The trailer also got four flats on the way back to Colorado. But honestly the whole trip was so much fun because I was with him. His whole attitude made it one of the best vacations I’ve ever had and it definetely was when I knew for sure that I had to marry him. Anyone that can turn a bad situation into something positive is a keeper.
The best trip we took was to Tennessee. For his birthday I had gotten him a Race On Dream package, where he got to actually drive a Nascar on a track. We drove, and it took 14 hours to get there. It was nice though, because the whole way down we talked. And being able to put up with someone for 14 hours straight, and never run out of things to talk about is a great thing :]
Though our honeymoon was magnificent in every way a honeymoon should be my favorite trip so far was my cross country trip with hubby this summer. I am extremely claustraphobic and havent been able to fly for years now. Well my best friend was getting married in California a month before me and I was the MOH. I knew I wouldnt be able to fly and before I even had time to research bus routes or train schedules my hubby offered to drive cross country. That touched me so much that he would offer to do that for me because he knew how important it was for me to be at my best friends wedding and how scared I was to fly. Hubby planned out the entire trip and he made it a little longer so that we could stop and enjoy the trip. July 4th was our anniversary and we spent it at the Grand Canyon. The trip took a little less then 2 weeks and hubby drove the entire way except for 1 hour in Iowa where he got a little tired but he was absolutely amazing. I got to see all parts of this beautiful country and I got to share it with the person I love the most. We had so mcuh fun singing to country songs along the way, playing I Spy, and just talking to one another. On our way home because he knew how much I missed our kitties he drove straight from Chicago to NJ in one day so I could be with them that night. This was def the best trip in so many ways but most of all because I saw how much hubby really loved me by doing all of that just so I can see my best friend get married. A month or so after we got back I got to marry the love of my life =)
My most memorable vacation was our 2nd trip to California about a year and change ago. It was the first trip we took after becoming engaged. We landed in San Francisco and ended up taking in the sights and then driving to Napa, then San Jose, then Yosemite. I have always loved Northern California and having hun with me this time was soo much better. It was romantic, adventurous, beautiful…just all together charming.
But the best and most important part of the trip wasn’t to just kick back and relax but because I was there to meet hun’s 85 year old grandmother in SF and his aunt. He hadn’t seen her in over a decade and her health was deterioting. He really wanted her to meet me and having her blessing was soo important to me because she was soo important to him and his childhood growing up. We met and we fell in love with each other instantly. She was the only person I hadn’t met in his family in these 5 years we’ve been together.
On top of that his aunt is really into palm reading and chinese astrologies. She immediately sat down and took my birth information down and compared it with hun’s. I was sweating bullets, fearing she would tell me something I didn’t want to hear. We sat there for an hour listening to her tell us that we we a perfect match for each other no matter how you cut it. Maybe I’m being superstitious, but I believe there are things that are beyond human control. I had known in my heart for a long time that he was meant for me, but our trip to SF sealed the deal and put all my worries to an ultimate rest.
Unfortunately, grandma is too old to travel to our wedding next year in NYC, but we are definitely going to take a trip out there again to celebrate with her. Maybe it isn’t dinner at the Eiffel tower, or a gondola ride through Venice…but it was the most unforgettable trip of my life. It had soo much meaning for us. That had to be the best vacation I’d ever taken.
wow - everyone seems to have been able to tour the world! we haven’t had the chance to go overseas together as of yet..but i would have to say i really enjoy road trips that we take ![]()
My husband sells wine and when we were engaged, he won a wine tour of Germany. I’ve traveled all over since I was little but he hasn’t had the opportunity to travel much.
I helped him prepare for the long flight and studied up on all the cities we would see.
We spent 8 days on a tour with 60 people enjoying every moment of the day and learning so much. He later told me that watching my excitement during the trip made him want to take me all over the world. We’re planning our next trip to Napa.
Kauai, Hawaii 2004 - getting seasick together while kayaking the Na Pali Coast over 2 days was a humbling experience. We recovered to enjoy the beautiful beaches and rainbows.
Peru 2006 - getting food poisoning (seeing a theme here?) and having him take care of me all night long. I recovered enough to enjoy the amazing ruins and Peruvian culture.
Machu Picchu 2006 - being totally lovesick when he proposed ![]()
i think our favorite vacation was going to the outer banks in north carolina. waking up by the beach every morning and drinking coffee while strolling by the water and going to bed to the sound of the ocean. i think we liked it best because we could drive there and we felt not pressure to HAVE to do anything unless we opted to. there’s nothing like going somewhere and not being forced to do anything. we’re planning on going back two weeks before our wedding to relax. i can’t wait!
The most memorable trip we had was to Tampa together. I’d been working out-of-state all summer and he came over to visit for a few weeks. I finally had a free weekend and it was just great getting to spend some quality time alone with just the two of us. We ate some awesome food & had fun discovering a city that I was considering moving to.
the best trip - australia. we did everything there, snorkeling in the great barrier reef, climbing a bridge, eating kangaroo.. etc.. but one of the best memories i have of this trip was meeting his grandma for the first time. it has also been about 10 years since he’s seen her so it was quite a reunion. an hour after we met, we were sitting in our hotel lobby waiting to get checked in and she turned to me and said “you look like amy..” and smiled. she’s referring to his mom.. she passed away a few years ago. instead of being freaked out, i saw it as a blessing… at that moment i felt that my familiarity to her daughter was a sign of approval & a blessing.
One of my favorite trips was our mini road trip to Southern California. Instead of taking a 45 minute plane ride, we opted to drive. We had a lot of fun in that 9 hour drive. We sang in the car, saw very interesting sights (snow in SoCal and countless cows), ate at greasy spoons, and then met with friends in Long Beach and had the best sushi we’ve ever had.
Our most memorable vacation was to Cancun in September. He was adamant that we stay at the all-inclusive Le Blanc Spa Resort, the #1 rated hotel on Tripadvisor, and I was pestering him that it was a waste of money to spend so much for a ¢¢â€š¬…”regular¢¢â€š¬? weekend getaway. We had been going out for over 5 and ‚½ years at this point. When the driver heard we were staying at Le Blanc, he asked if it was our honeymoon and I bitterly said, ¢¢â€š¬…”No¢¢â€š¬? and gave my boyfriend a mean stare, jokingly of course. The moment we stepped into the hotel the concierge greeted us by name, which I found a little strange, but I figured that’s what service at a the ¢¢â€š¬…”best hotel¢¢â€š¬? in Cancun is like. We got an ocean-view room on the top floor without even asking; I figured we just lucked out. The concierge also asked if we were celebrating a special occasion and once I again I replied with a ¢¢â€š¬…”No.¢¢â€š¬?
We get to the room and there’s champagne and flowers, and I’m like, so this is what they mean by all-inclusive and didn’t really think anything of it. Once the bellboy left, he wipes out his camera and does the touristy thing of taping the gorgeous room, and all of a sudden he’s like ¢¢â€š¬…”OMG, what’s that.¢¢â€š¬? I’m like, ¢¢â€š¬…”what?¢¢â€š¬? What happens next is a little of a blur, but it was pretty much me freaking out, thinking it can’t be what I think it is because there is no way. And when I saw ¢¢â€š¬…”it¢¢â€š¬? I closed the box immediately and started freaking out and crying. Mind you all of this is on tape.
When we left our room to have lunch a little later, we had a few of the hotel staff congratulating us and one even asked if we liked the ¢¢â€š¬…”flowers¢¢â€š¬? he put in. Apparently, my boyfriend was in constant contact with the hotel before we got there planning this ¢¢â€š¬…”surprise engagement.¢¢â€š¬? It was definitely the best vacation I could ever ask for. Le Blanc was truly paradise, an attentive staff, gorgeous amenities, gourmet food and a never-ending flow of top-shelf alcohol. While we were there, we agreed that this vacation might be hard to top and give our honeymoon a run for its money¢¢â€š¬¦we’ll see.
Best vacation ever? The Westin at St. Johns USVI. Why? Fantastic location, amazing service and food, gorgeous whether… and that is where my fiance proposed!!!!
i grew up loving baseball…which in his eyes– well that’s a heckuva reason to love me.
we took a quick weekend trip earlier this year to chicago. it is my favorite place to go (i live in texas) and have been going there at least once a year just to catch a baseball game or two. it was awesome sharing my love for the cubbies and him soaking it all in with me. i loved walking through the streets and showing him chicago (it was his first time) until we were both exhausted, eating pizza until we felt we were going to burst and eating hot dogs at wrigley field on a cool spring day. it was incredible.
i wish we could say that we’ve traveled together, but i can’t… yet.
he’s planning a surprise for my birthday/turkey day sooooo we’ll see what happens.
wish i were creative enough to bluff my way through this. ![]()
our first trip together was to seattle to visit his friends…we didn’t do much but it was memorable b/c it was our first trip together.
The best vacation that I took was our honeymoon. We went on a cruise to Alaska for 7 days and few extra days we stayed at Vancouver, Canada. The most memorable time of the trip was that we got to see the Glaciers up close, while we were sailing to another island and also the dog sledding + helicopter ride was absolutely beautiful.
Best vacation - I was in DC doing an internship and my BF came to visit. We decided to spend the weekend in NYC to visit friends and do some sight seeing. It’s the best vacation because it was such an adventure - nothing went as planned. There were lots of goofs along the way, but the most memorable part was missing our Chinatown bus and having to wait until midnight for the next bus. We made the best of it and made our way to Lombardi’s for pizza, with luggage in tow. We got plenty of stares and couldn’t have been bigger tourists!
Definetely when we went to Guayama (here in Puerto Rico) last summer. We could both, for the first time, “escape” from the real world and all the stress it brings, and our many conversations and walks led us to know each other in a much deeper, spiritual level. I learned so many of his deepest thoughts, beliefs, wishes; and we’d been together for a year at that time! It made me realize that I love him because I always have something to learn from him. Also, my family went as well, and we all got along great (which of course is very important). I now have the comfort of knowing my mom won’t be the evil MIL from hell to him!
Our trip to Switzerland was the best vacation I have ever had. We rented a car and drove from north to south across this quaint, charming country. We weren’t officially together yet, but after spending a week with him abroad I knew that if I could travel with him and not be annoyed, irritated, or sick of him, our future together would be unquestioned.
We took a trip to an area with lots of wineries. We did tours, tastings and stayed at the most fabulous bed and breakfast. It was very romantic and fun. Wine-tastic!
The best trip we have taken was not even far from home-it was when we went to the Ritz Carlton in Battery Park City, walked around for the day and later got engaged in the hotel room, where there were flowers waiting and a song to dance to…
Our two favorite:
Hawaii, Maui & Oahu - Beautiful islands and the food so Yummy; definitely go to the Taste of Lahaina in Maui
Cancun, Mexico - White sand beaches & Great fish and seafood
Before I met my FI we had both never left the states. (I mean the mainland United States) So we’ve made it our goal to travel the world together. Each place we go together is special b/c we explore it together. We make a complimentary pair, I’m so fortunate to have him b/c he makes me try things I would never have; while I on the other hand keep him safe. hehe
Mine would have to be either our first big trip together to Puerto Rico, or last year’s trip to Italy. I think over all we both enjoyed Italy more, but there is just something so magical thinking back to our first real vacation together, staying in hotels and renting cars and figuring out all the details together like a Real Couple. We’ve done all those things a million times together now so checking into a hotel, for example, isn’t particularly exciting, but doing all those things TOGETHER for the first time was so romantic and really cemented our couple-ness for me somehow. We weren’t just dating, hanging around the city together anymore!
the bahamas… we got tickets for $9 each way (spirit sale!) and so we spluuuurged on sightseeing. we went to aquariums, zoos, had lobster every night, did the foot push with dolphis, and best of all, took a boat an hour out with 6 other people and spent all day on a deserted island in the exuma keys…. absolute corona commercial. my boyfriend is the only person who can keep up with me on crazy sightseeing, loves and appreciates good food, and yet knows exactly when to stop and have a beer, or just gaze out at the ocean and sigh.
our pics from our trip to exuma =)

My favorite trip with my husband was our first vacation to beautiful Grand Teton National Park in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We flew into Salt Lake City, Utah and drove to Grand Teton and Yellowstone. What made this trip so memorable was reliving our childhood memories of roadtrips with our families to fishing with our dads.
My favorite vacation with my Fi was when we went to Florida…and let me tell you, I admire Floridians for putting up with that heat/humidity! Anyway, it was really special just because we stayed at this great family-owned beach house of his family’s, and because it was my first opportunity to meet his family at all! We live in WA and they are in FL and we *maybe* get to make a once a year trip. I know it meant a lot to him and of course they were totally hospitable. I really just love any trip or vacation can spend with this guy!
i smile just thinking about it.
it’s not so much of a vacation, but a favorite day trip/plan. i grew up in LA (the city, not the suburbs..), whereas my boyf pretty much grew up in the woods, so he’s very much a nature lover. there’s a reservoir near us that he’s absolutely in love with, and one day i finally agreed to allow him to take me there (i was scared of the unexpected — nature!).
we wanted a picnic, but neither of had any ingredients at home, so we picked up some good ol’ chipotle (our fav. fast food restaurant) and drove down to the res. we sat on a wooden logs staring into the water, while occasionally feeding the geese (well, mostly him). the sun began to set while we walked on the shore of the water, and then he somehow managed to teach me, a city girl, how to skip stones. it took forever for me to learn, so we were both really proud once i caught on.
doesn’t sound too extraordinary, but it was a serene, peaceful trip that both of us desperately needed without even realizing it. ![]()
Sunset beach, oahu, august 20, 2006 was the most perfect day he could chose to propose. It was magical, and we are returning next year for a wedding destination of a lifetime. For us, it would be hard to top this favorite trip!
Mr. Raspberry and I are luck enough to have taken several vacations together. I spent a semester abroad in Australia and he spend a semester in Rome (we both visited each other and other countries while we were abroad) We have been to Niagara Falls and wine country in California… we have had 4 years of great vacations together… the best though was this past summer when Mr. Raspberry proposed at his family’s summer home in New Hampshire. We have been there the past three summers and we love it. We love everything about water skiing, drinks on the dock and trivial pursuit in the evenings…
So, I would have to say, that was the best vacation….
The best trip that we ever took was a month long road trip from California back to Boston. We hit San Diego, San Francisco, Sonoma, Vegas, Grand Canyon, Dallas, New Orleans (pre-Katrina), Shreveport, Kansas City, Detroit, Toronto. It was a great trip because when you spend THAT much time in a car together you learn a lot about each other. We drove over 5000 miles because of our non-linear route, but would definitely have done it again. I still havent started scrapbooking this trip, but I can’t wait to do it since it’ll be a whole book in itself!
The best trip ever was when my fiance/then-boyfriend flew out to budapest after my study abroad program ended, and we backpacked through austria and the czech republic together. that was the first time we traveled alone, and it was a blast! it was for about 10 days, but it felt like a long and luxurious month. however, it was also december so it was freezing! our backpacks were so light because we were wearing almost everything we owned ![]()
It might not qualify as a “vacation,” but the best trip we’ve taken was when we drove my Chrysler minivan across the country for 4 1/2 months. We lived in the van, brushed our teeth in Wal-Marts, showered at the homes of kind friends along the way and saw 43 states in all. We knew if we made it through the trip without killing each other, we could make it through anything. What astonished me the most is that not only did we not kill each other, but we hardly ever fought at all.
We learned so much about each other: we only fight when we are hungry, we both love going new places together, he cannot stand to drive someplace without a plan, I am a compulsive photographer and he is an amazing camp cook. I think my most profound realization came in Washington state, a few weeks into the trip, when we had spent just enough time together to really need some “alone time.” He went for a walk along the river we were camped by, and I stayed at camp and read a book. After a few minutes. I missed him so desperately that I sneaked over to the river bank to spy on him. My heart filled with love the instant I saw him. It made me so happy to watch him enjoying what he loves the most (water and nature), and I knew that he was, without a doubt, the one for me. After that time, we honestly spent nearly every second of the rest of the trip together (though we still took “me time” when we needed it). If we could make it through that, we can certainly make it through anything!
When we went to Springfield, Missouri for a wedding. Even though there wasn’t much to see, but we found Andy’s Frozen Custard that we love so much and we had so much fun swimming and trying different foods.
The best vacation we ever took didn’t even require us to leave our hometown.
Two weeks before Christmas last year, I decided to surprise my honeybee with a little stress-relieving getaway before the holidays. I rented a suite at the Doubletree Warren Place, and we had a two-day relaxation trip away from the parents/relatives/friends that was just for us. It wasn’t much, but it’s what we could afford–and that was the ticket! It helped get rid of some of the first-Christmas-together tension.
We have one vacation together every year at Christmas, when we visit my FI’s grandparents on the coast for two weeks.
It is so traditional and warm and full of love. Makes me think of how great it’s going to be when we host our own Xmas family get-together one day.
Our most memorable trip together was probably our first trip to my home country of Austria. My FI is American and I wanted to show him what I love about the country I grew up in and how it made me the person I am today (I actually haven’t been living in Austria for more than five years).
We spent most of our time in Vienna (my hometown) where we spent our days visiting the historic sites, enjoying the food, seeing my family, visiting one of the many markets or just getting lost in the never ending old streets. At night my friends took us to amazing jazz clubs and restaurants.
After Vienna we took an old, historic train through the valleys and mountains to a little mountain village which is famous for looking pretty much the same it did 300 years ago. We stayed at a hotel (which is also a brewery)that only has two rooms - we got to stay in the Brewmasters room, which was furnished with the original 200 year old furniture of the master of the brewery at the time. My FI loves beer and old stuff, so he loved this experience. We also went up a mountain (as you do in Austria ;-)).
But the best was that my family and friends finally got to meet my FI (who then only was my boyfriend).
We are now thinking about having our wedding in Austria as well.
Our favorite vacation together (and the last one we took and will take until our honeymoon) was in 2003 and at the last minute my FI’s mother and step-father invited us to a house they rented in in St. George Island, Florida. Because I was still in college and working part-time I could only take about 5 days off instead of the 8 that his family was there. We had so much fun in such a short period of time. His mother and step-father rented a beautiful beach front home where we spent all 5 days playing in the sand and water, building pits, sand mermaids, eating seafood and just having a relaxing time. We came back very tan, rested and full of wonderful memories of the trip.
Our best trip ever was to Berlin! I had just herniated a disc in my back and could literally not sit down without shrieking in pain. I was living in London at the time so the plane ride was pretty quick and when we got there, my honey walked and walked and walked with me. It was the best thing for my back (well, the only thing I could withstand) and turned out to be the best thing for our vacation. We saw the whole city, backwards and forwards. We walked, we talked, we stopped and ate tons of pastries (which taste better after all that walking), we held hands, we shopped, we had a beer by the Berlin wall… it was just so romantic to be in an old City and walk for miles and miles!
The best trip we took was to Paris in May. We saw so many beautiful things there. It was just great to be together in another country and explore together.
The only trip we’ve ever taken (except small family trips) was our mini-moon (honeymoon will be this summer). We never lived together or even slept at each other’s house at night, so our mini-moon was the first time we woke up together. That’s why it was the best trip ever.
Our best trip together was our honeymoon (today is our 1-month-a-versary!) to Maui! We did a lot of activities, went shopping, and relaxed at the beach. And it was a good time relaxing and getting over the fact that we had just gotten MARRIED! ![]()
The best trip my “bear” and I took was for my birthday last year in October 2005 up to the White Mountains in NH. The weather was awful (grey, cold & extremely wet) and the trip was short (just 3 days), but we had the time of our lives. We took a train ride through the mtns. to enjoy the fall foliage at its peak, enjoyed a long soak in our suite jacuzzi tub, and snuggled on the couch in front of the fireplace while watching the Patriots! It was such a fun, relaxing trip — it goes to show that rain doesn’t have to dampen any day. It is the company you keep that makes one’s memories so special. I shall treasure that long weekend forever!
A couple years ago we went to Alaska together to run the Mayor’s Midnight Sun Marathon. That was probably our most memorable/growing experiences ever. I have asthma, but I wanted to run the marathon (26mi!) to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. FI decided to run the marathon as well purely to support me! He’s a really fast runner and he forced himself to run slower so that he could run beside me the whole time and encourage me. That marathon was probably one of the best experiences in our relationship, and it was only made better by the fact that we got to hang out in Alaska for a week!
Our best was our first vacation together last November!! We had been dating 6 months and took me to North Carolina (where he is from) to vaca and meet the parents. We flew from NY and rented a car and drove approx. 5 hours to Wilmington, NC! It was our first roadtrip and the best. He had no idea, but as a Dawson’s Creek fan (guilty pleasure!!) I had always wanted to go to Wilmington because that’s where it was filmed. We found all the spots where it was filmed, walked along the River Walk (it was freezing) at night and went to a ‘Greasy Spoon’ - great food!!! The most amazing part was when we were trying to find a specific restaurant I was dying to try…Elijah’s…it was on the river and the most romantic dinner I’ve ever had.
But our trip didn’t end there….after 2 days there, we drove to Charlotte, NC where he surprised me with tickets to the Cirque du Soleil - Varekai!!! My first time seeing the ‘Cirque’!! It was incredible!
Then we continued west to Ashville, NC…where he surprised me again…we were not staying in a dinky hotel…He got us a room at the GrovePark Inn!!! I was so overwhelmed!!! It was amazing…..huge fireplaces in the lobby, rockers overlooking the mountains, and the best room service ever!
While in Ashville, he showed me where he went to college, where he grew up, his favorite ’spots’ for pizza and snacks. It was so wonderful to share those memories with him.
And then it was time to meet the parents…and grandparents!!! It went very well - I came prepared with a gift for his mom for her birthday ( a candle from Bloomies) and they took us out for dinner to ‘Brooklyn Pizza’.
Truly it was the best vacation ever!!!
Especially because now that I will be moving down there this summer, I am quite familiar with the different areas of NC …did he plan that out on purpose…hum??!!
Best vacation was (hands down) our two week vacation in italy last year. It was fantastic! We flew into Milan, then saw an amazing opera (Aida) in Verona (my fiance’s first - and he loved it!), then went on to Florence and of course, Rome!!! Although we were constiantly moving and taking pictures, and my fiance would not put his blackberry down, it was fantastic! I can’t wait to do it (or something similar) again! ![]()
our favorite vacation was to bora bora! we had 10 days of doing absolutely nothing but hanging out in the sun together. it was a surreal experience being in paradise with my favorite person. =)
We went to Europe - 9 countries in a little over a month. We saw so many things and everyday was more romantic!
Our best trip happened this past June when my aunt let us borrow her condo on Amelia Island. We had both just taken our respective CFA exams, and were in dire need of a break. We had also gotten into a huge fight about a week before our scheduled vacation, so I wasn’t even sure if he was going until the night before we left.
Once we got to the island, all our worries drifted away…it was gorgeous. We spent the week walking around the private beach, taking in the sights of Amelia Island, and just enjoying each other.
In the middle of our vacation…he proposed!! It was a complete surprise to me, and we were both so giddy we drove 10 hours to Atlanta to have a celebratory dinner with my aunt and then drove 10 hours back to the island the next day.
It was then that I knew just how lucky I was to find someone that was so excited to marry me, and so into family values, that he would drive 20 hours through the back roads of Florida and Georgia just to allow me to celebrate our engagement with the closest relative available(the rest of my family is up here in NY and NJ).
Best trip was to Bora Bora of course. Food was great, snorkeling & swimming with sharks was fun as well as renting a buggy and taking it around the island. Super chill & relaxing ![]()
One of my favorite vacations we’ve taken together has to be our first anniversary trip to San Francisco. We were going for our anniversary and my uncles’ commitment ceremony. It was a trip of comical moments and a bit of a comedy of errors.
We arrived at our hotel, only to be told they overbooked and we could be accomodated at their sister hotel. The sister hotel was more like the red-headed stepchild hotel…it was HORRIBLE!!! We rolled with it together though, which was fun. The next day we browsed Union Square and I basically hip-checked him into Tiffany to look at engagement rings
On the night of our anniversary, we went out to dinner at Forbes Island, a restaurant that is built into a boat docked away from the pier (that is made to look like a lighthouse on an island). I tend to get seasick. Even worse when you’re in the main area of the boat with no windows (which I didn’t know). Ummm…once during our salad, I had to go on deck to get fresh air. When we finally got dinner (they were busy and slow) about an hour later, I took one bite and, in Mr. Trisha’s words, I “turned absolutely green” and ran upstairs for air. The food got packed to go, our wine was corked and given to us, and we took the little boat back to the pier. We sat on a bench eating our filet mignon and mashed potatoes looking at the water in the SF Bay.
Of course, there was also the commitment ceremony at the Pan Pacific, which was absolutely gorgeous. It was the first time we ever said “When we get married, let’s do _________” (or not, as the case may be).
One time I mentioned to him that I never been to Hawaii, after few weeks, he booked the trip and told me this will be our secret getaway. We’re not allowed to tell anyone where we’re, and it will be just between us two. He took me to Oahu and Maui two islands, and it was the most memorable trip ever! We watched sunset everyday, snorkeling, hiking, Hana road trip for 5 hours, watched sunrise, spa, played golf..etc. The whole trip, we didn’t argue once, we woke up at the same time, we had so much fun together, and we both knew we would do anything for each other. Many ppl there asked if we were on our honeymoon¢¢â€š¬¦I guess we’re very into each other haha…. After spending five days on the trip with him, I know this man will make me happy forever. I am really in love for the first time in my life…..
Our best trip together was our honeymoon in Disneyworld. We had a fantastic time and were treated like royalty. It was such a magical place to be with the one I love!
fi and i went to this tiny little island off the chesapeake for our anniversary two years ago. we LOVE b&bs, and managed to find a charming one on this island. we spent four days walking the island, eating seafood, reading and talking. fi bought a print of the island and i smile every time i see it.
the best part of the weekend? no phone or blackberry service on the island!
My favorite and most memorable was our first vacation together as a couple, on a trip down to Miami, FL. Most memorable because it marks our anniversary as the first day of the trip is also the first day we’re officially together. We spent a long weekend without any specific plans. We strolled around, enjoyed the beach, sampled random restaurant fares. It was relaxing, carefree and very very sweet. It was our “dating honeymoon”. =)
My most memorable trip was to Vegas 2 years ago with my significant other. It gave us a chance to really get to know each other and have lots of fun together. We went during the time of my birthday so everyday he took me shopping at different places and brought me to a different buffet everynight so that we could indulge ourselves in all types of different foods. He also took me to a show on the strip everynight. He totally spoilt me rotten, and best of all, we found out how much we truely felt for each other and how much we can have together.
Key West. We had the best time enjoying the laid back atmosphere and exploring the town on bikes we borrowed from our cottage. It was the first time I was able to get my FH to go to a drag show. Drags + Drinks = a good time in Key West Baby!
Our first vacation together was to a little seaside town about two hours away from our hometown.
It wasn’t exotic and it was far from beach weather, but a cosy little B and B with a hot tub made up for that.
We laughed an awful lot. About silly things like the noises the seagulls were making. Or the fact that there were a choice of ten movies to rent at the video store.
Walking hand in hand along the beach after a stressful week at work was just about the best vacation ever.
Last February, I suprised FI with a trip to the ice hotel in quebec. We had the best time sleeping in a giant chinese dragon bed carved entirely of ice. (in arctic sleeping bags). The hotel is like the best igloo ever- ice chandeliers, reliefs carved into the snow walls, and 2 bars where drinks are served in glasses made of ice. There is even an ice chapel where we practiced for the big day (next summer).
Overall best trip was to India over Chinese Lunar New Year last year. There’s so much history and culture there - visiting sites you can really imagine yourself what life must have been like back in the day. And of course, FI proposed to me at the Taj Mahal.
But one of my favorite memories is on our first trip together to Bali, when I was doing one of my first “real” SCUBA dives as a certified diver. I was too worried about my bouyancy and whether I was doing things right to be noticing the beautiful underwater scene around me. FI (then boyfriend and very experienced diver), leaned over to add air into my BCD and held my hand so I could enjoy the dive.
trip to japan- countless meals at sushi bars and in restaurants with sushi conveyor belts, and many fun-filled trips to the arcade. lots of sticker pics to remember the moment. can’t wait to travel the rest of the world with him. ![]()
Whoops, I posted in the wrong entry. Here we go again:
The boy came to visit me in NYC for three days while I was on a break from teaching in Europe (long story). We barely left the airport hotel, spending the bulk of the time cuddling in bed. While the highlight was our day in the city, a close second was going to the Newark airport for dinner (it was the only place in walking distance!).
It was so wonderful to reconnect with my honey that I proposed over the phone from The Hague a week later!
After being with my fiance for over 5 years, we have been lucky enough to go on a few special vacations. But without a doubt my favorite and most memorable vacation was a trip to Paris we took together about a year after we started dating. I was overwhelmed at being in such a romantic place (I had never been) and I was very excited to walk around and being the typical tourist. My FH is not really into that, and especially since he had been to Paris several times before. But he was so thrilled to show me everything that we could possibly squeeze in. One particular day, after a non-stop day of walking and eating, we collapsed in bed completely exhausted. And I’ll never forget, my FH looked over at me, smiled and told me he loved me for the first time. I’ll never forget his face. I guess you can call it Paris and maybe a cheesy moment, but nothing was ever the same after that night.
The best trip we took together was our BIG 1st trip. We went from Baltimore to San Francisco. Our plane was delayed and we got stranded for 1 night in Fort Worth, Texas. We missed a full day of (booked) sightseeing and lost a fair amount of $$. We rented a convertible to drive and visit my family in Santa Cruz (first bf I ever took to visit them), and it ended up being approximately 65 degrees in July :(.
Yet, it was the best trip ever, we never fought, and we laughed the whole time. It was then that I realized he was it for me :).
My favorite vacation with my fiance is when he flew back to Kentucky with me to meet my family and announce our engament. He had never left California before and he was so nervous, it really made me appreciate how much he loves me. I didn’t expect how nervous my family would be though! I feel so lucky to have made that trip, my family adores him, and my mother was diagnosed with cancer a week later. She keeps telling me how much she loves my fiance, how happy she is that I have someone to support and love me.
My favorite vacation by far was our recent trip to Italy. My birthday was during the trip, and he told me to carve out a few hours of the trip the day before my bday for a small bday surprise. I wasn’t expectign much b/c he gave me a wonderful bday present before leaving for Italy. Me, being the curious one that I am, asked a lot of questions and I somehow found myself believing it was an “amazing race” around Rome because I love that show. haha. So we show up at the trevi fountain to meet “the group” and he blindfolds me so I can’t see “the group” getting together and me possibly figuring it out. After removing the blindfold, I found him on one knee with a ring! The kicker - after he proposed, he told me he hired photographers to capture the moment. They followed us around the rest of the day in Rome taking candid pics of us! Not only was it the best trip because we got engaged, but Italy is one of the most amazing and beautiful places on earth. Plus it has the best food you could EVER taste!
