About Mrs. Blueberry

Officiant

November 6th, 2006 @ 12:44 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

On Saturday we drove all the way down to Lee’s Summit to meet with a potential officiant I had discovered online while searching for “secular wedding.”

Missouri is tricky because judges/JOP’s can’t leave their chambers to perform weddings. So unless we wanted to go to the courthouse, we’d have to find an ordained minister who would be willing to perform a secular ceremony (which is understandably quite rare). There may be a couple other options–temporary licensing for performing marriages, etc.–but we never really considered those options.

We (OK mostly *I*) was hoping to find someone who could perform a very simple, respectful and almost traditional ceremony, only completely secular. Up until this point, I wasn’t able to find anyone who would do this. But then I discovered this guy.

He’s so amazingly nice…an ordained minister who is head of a Unitarian church. He seemed very happy to be able to perform just the type of ceremony we were looking for, saying that the ceremony shouldn’t be about what he believes, but what the couple believes. He also brought along transcripts of several ceremonies he’s done and we were really impressed. We can take those into consideration and “cut and paste” to come up with the perfect ceremony, or write our own.

I’m so happy! We finally found our officiant! One less thing to worry about. :)

Congrats!! That’s one of those things I just keep pushing out of my mind. But I guess it WOULD be good to actually someone there to perform the ceremony….. But I’m so glad you found the right person for you! :-)
