Skating My Way To Tiny!

November 6th, 2006 @ 11:15 am by Mrs. Kiwi

I live in Los Angeles, land of traffic jams. Oddly enough, after living here my entire life - I Don’t Drive. You know that song, “Nobody Walks in L.A.?” Yeah, well, I do.

When I tried on that Jasmine, I realized I looked like a meatball. For the past three years, I’ve been on steroids for my asthma and it has made me gain 40 pounds, maybe more (I’m afraid to look at the scale). I used to be a size 7, but now I’ve pooched up to a larger size (not telling). I was told it takes 2 to 18 months to lose the weight, but I thought about helping it along.

To lose some weight, I thought about getting a bike and riding it with my trusty pooch along side me. Then we looked at Woofie’s stubby legs and thought he may get entangled in the spokes, so that was abandoned. Then I decided to get one of those ab chair things.

At least, I had considered it, until Mr. Kiwi reminded me that I used to use my yoga ball as a seat to watch Golden Girls, and who KNOWS how comfy that chair is! So, that was out. My new thing? Rollerskating! Not inline skating, because I am a moron when it comes to stopping (I once fell down a hill landing in a straddle pose on a light post). No, just some old school roller skates with pink wheels, if I’m lucky! I saw these cool ones at skates.com.

These ones are super cool, by Puma!

Now be honest, if you saw a girl rollerskating with a weiner dog, would you make fun of her with your friends?

What interesting ways are you getting in shape for your wedding? Or just getting in shape period?

hehehe, so cute! And if I did make fun of you, it would totally be because I was secretly envious. :-) Orrr not so secretly envious…hmmm, maybe I should get some skates……

Miss Blueberry says:

Love those first skates! I definitely wouldn’t make fun of you in those.

Lol at Miss Bluebell, too. Now I’m thinking I need some skates! hehehe

Ha ha, it could be a Wedding Bee skate-a-thon for charity!! Don’t know where the money idea came from, but what the heck? :) I’m going to get them as soon as I get to a store that sells them for adults. I’m looking for some kick-ass pom poms to attach to my laces. My lord, I’m regressing as I type. :)

I HAVE a wiener dog and I want those Puma skates immediately!
Too bad you don’t live on the east coast, we could start a club!

I love those skates! I’ve cut out all soda, fast foods and chips (my weakness) and have lost 15 lbs. . (1-2 lbs a week roughly) But 1-2 days a week I’ll indulge my bad food cravings and this way I don’t waver :)

good luck!

Miss Kiwi says:

Snowbride, that would be SOOO cool!! I am going back and forth between the pumas and the classics, I can’t decide!!

Lixue, you really give you congrats- I have no willpower and MY weakness is sugar. I donl’t drink soda, but I’m addicted to lemonade! I can do without chips, but cookies?! NO!

The roller skates are adorable!

I just got engaged last week. :) I’m a runner, but don’t think all runners are skinny, we’re not. I’ve managed to put on a few pounds, and I want to lose them! I need to start increasing my mileage per week, while keeping away from the junk food. Not sure when the wedding will be (next summer?) but I’ve got time to lose weight slowly and gradually.

Miss Kiwi says:

Pencils, I wish I was a runner. :( I am slow, and my asthma SUCKS. Which is why I’m doing the skating! I used to rollerblade a lot, and my asthma never got affected by it. Congrats, and good luck!

i have hot pink skates from skechers (they’re 5 years old) and every time i wear them, i get so many compliments. i love the two you posted - i may need to get some for next summer!

for exercise, i walk a dog (i’m also a dog walker because other wise i’d never get any exercise). trying to get back into the gym but it’s so hard!

Miss Kiwi says:

Mrs. Bee, I love walking dogs. We’re lucky in that we live by a park. If I were to skate to the park, I have to go up the hill and over an overpass. I’m terrified of heights. Especially when I walk woofie over it. I’m so afraid he’ll jump onto the freeway or something!

You have those cool skechers? I totally wanted those. They look so much cooler than the classics!

Jennifer says:

My weiner dog would probably be afraid of the roller skates!!!

My old roommate got one of those ab workout chairs, and we covered it with a blanket (when not in use, which was almost all the time) and it became a comfortable addition to our living room. Don’t get one, you’ll enjoy sitting in it too!

Miss Kiwi says:

Jennifer, woofie would probably want to bite the wheels. But I learned that at some point he learns wheels=OW. I totally know that chair would be my new cozy spot!

LA says:

Miss Kiwi - good luck! I’m surprised we don’t see more posts about weight loss struggles, especially since it’s a topic I feel like all women can relate to (in some way or another).

I’m not even engaged yet (however I know there is an imminent proposal), but I’ve started trying to get into shape for a few reasons. One being that I want to look and feel better. The 2nd and 3rd reasons are a little more embarassing: I don’t want to crash diet before the wedding and have everyone saying “Wow she lost so much weight for the wedding”, and I don’t want to gain it all back on my honeymoon or after.

So I’ve been doing the free website sparkpeople.com for about 6 weeks, and have lost about 5 pounds - slow but steady, and I really feel like I’m making a lifestyle change. SparkPeople is a lot like weight watchers, but it’s totally and completely free. I highly recommend it! Good luck Miss Kiwi, and I totally heart those skates.

Miss Kiwi says:

Hey guys! Lindsay, I TOTALLY love rollerskating above inline. I think the stopper being at the back just throws me off.

Mrs. Bee, you had one, too!! They are sooo cute and crazy!

LA, thank you for the support. It’s so funny, my dad was reading WB, and he was like, those girls are all so sweet! I was like, yes dad, they really are. Such a great support system. :)

Love those skates!! I think I am going to get a pair too!! I am wondering if my hot dog Leo would walk with me on them! He is pretty skittish and scared of everything!! Lol! Happy rolling!! :)

18.
Miss Kiwi says:

Twinkle, what is the deal with dachshunds being terrified of everything? Woofie is scared of the TRASH truck. And of course, every dog’s arch nemesis- the vaccuum!!
