60th Anniversary

November 7th, 2006 @ 6:20 pm by Mrs. Blueberry

This is a bit belated, but October 27th was my grandparents’ 60th anniversary. They got married in 1946, shortly after Granddad came home from WWII. They have four kids and six grandkids and still live in the house where my dad and his siblings were raised.

The weekend before their anniversary they had a big dinner at Cinzetti’s, an amazing Italian buffet. Everyone made it except me and Mr. Blueberry, but it was apparently a really good time :).

Then on the evening of their actual anniversary, they went back to the same hotel they stayed at on their wedding night: the Hilton President in downtown Kansas City. They were given complimentary champagne and strawberries, dessert with dinner, and kind remarks from nearly every member of the hotel staff. But best of all, when they went to check out they discovered that some kind fellow patron had paid for their stay! Never underestimate the kindness of strangers :).

The Hilton President is a lovely hotel. Closed for several years, it recently re-opened and is just as beautiful as it was in the 40’s (not that I would know about the 1940’s, of course! hehe):

I highly recommend the hotel for anyone who happens to be travelling in Kansas City, and hope that you all have marriages as successful as my grandparents’. :)

Thats a great story. On my grandparents 50th anniversary they went to stay at the Claremont Hotel in Berkeley, CA. My grandpa had his original receipt from 50 years ago. Unfortunately the hotel did not have the exact room but rented them the biggest suite the hotel had and only charged them the amount they were charged 50 years before. The amazing suite only cost them 20 bucks or so.

That’s such a sweet story! The fact that they were able to stay at the same hotel is awesome in itself, but all those added bonuses make the story that much more special. Congrats to them!

That is so so sweet. At our wedding we honored my grandparents and their 64th wedding anniversary by giving my grandmother my tossed bouqet and my grandfather the garter. My grandfather being the dirty old man that he is went all the way up my grandmother’s theigh to put that thing on. It was a riot!
