Bad Taste

November 7th, 2006 @ 12:56 pm by Mrs. Ant

For the dinner portion of my Bachelorette party, we headed over to Lucky Cheng’s, a restaurant that features drag queen waitresses and a raunchy show.

I would not recommend going there at all.

I’ve actually been there before for dinner and a show back in February 2004 for my birthday. Back then, the show was entertaining, the drag queens were very impressive (those legs!), and the food was actually pretty good! My girls decided to take me back to Lucky Cheng’s for my Bachelorette party because I enjoyed myself so much the first time…

Unfortunately, the quality of the food and entertainment has gone way downhill*. Instead of offering tasty a la carte dishes like before, they now have only standard pre-fixe menus. My friends and I weren’t there for the food, so we didn’t arrive with high expectations. But the food was so terribly subpar that it ranks as one of my worst food experiences ever.

The drag queens weren’t nearly as impressive as they were about 3 years ago. I remember the waitresses last time were totally workin’ it! This time, they were just working…

There were, however, 2 drag queens that were offering some pretty memorable lapdances- and by “memorable” I mean “deeply disturbing.” Now, I am far from prude… but some of their gimmicks were just too much for me. It’s one thing for the lapdancer to gyrate his/her crotch into the lapdancee’s face.. but it crosses the line for me when the lapdancer furiously rubs the dancee’s crotch, jiggles the dancee’s breasts, and pinches the dancee’s nipples. No thanks!

Overall, our experience at Lucky Cheng’s can be summed up in two words: BAD TASTE.

(* I suspect that the downfall has a lot to do with how popular and touristy the place has become. It can get away with a lot and still pull in the customers based on buzz alone.)

i took my friend there when she was visiting 2 years ago and she had a blast. but everyone told me that the trannies there were supposed to be beautiful - hard to tell they were men, and that wasn’t the case.

we took miss butterfly to lips for her birthday last year, and it actually was a blast because a bachelor party was there that night. i think it depends on a lot on the crowd, but yah both places are pretty much tourist traps now.

Ouch, that sucks. I’m sorry it was so bad. Those dances you described are making me feel disturbed just imagining them…

i went to a birthday party there two years ago and i didn’t like the place either. we were ordering a la carte, but everything was salty, overcook and totally disgusting. and i didn’t care much for the show either. stay away!

I heard from my friends saying that this place isn’t a best place to eat. She was complaining that the show and food was just horrible and plus it was expensive. My friend had to fork over $80 dollars over the weekend for the prefix meal.

However I went to this Resturant that is around the corner of Lucky Cheng’s, called Waikiki Wally

It’s an Hawaiian Resturant that serve really good stuff. Lucky Cheng’s and that Hawaiian Resturant are in the same chain family but I personally think that the food is really good, the down size is the food portion are small.

Hey a friend of mine in NYC also suggested we visit Waikikiwallys! Hmm…since there were two good references, I might end up going there for my bday party. But I just hope by the time March 07 rolls around it won’t be too hyped up.

So sorry you were disappointed in the place :-( Sounds like it definitely *used* to be cool, though.
