About Beehive

Beehive

November 7th, 2006 @ 2:25 pm by Beehive

In today’s beehive:

  • JN is looking for an affordable place to get hair extensions in NYC, or has anyone done DIY extensions with success?
  • sp wants to know if it’s customary to give your bridesmaid a thank you gift for throwing a bridal shower.
  • hannah is a tall girl that loves to wear big heels, but always seems to date guys that the same height so she doesn’t. She wants to know what you think of this issue and whether any of you have SO’s that are of equal or less height?
  • milka got married 10 days ago and is now wondering what to do with all her wedding stuff. Should she give it to her friends that are planning weddings? Sell it?
  • Diva wants to know if a 9 year old flowergirl is too old.
  • Angie wants to know how she and her bf should dress for a semi-formal Dec 30th wedding. Are boots and everyday winter coats too informal?

To add your question to the beehive, leave a comment below and we’ll update this post to include your question. See all past beehives here.

JN- The lady who did my hair for my e-pics decided to add extensions at the last minute. Since we were short on time, she just took bunches of hair, held them together with hair bands and bobby pinned them into place (near the nape of my neck to hide the pins). It actually looked so natural that my family was wondering why they never noticed my hair was so long (and I had even worn my natural hair down the day before). Even though it was such a temporary fix, it lasted all day, and no one noticed they were fake until I told them! I kept the extensions, and I’m pretty sure I can replicate the look DIY since it’s so easy.

hannah - luckily, i’ve dated guys who were mostly taller than me. fi has got a couple of inches on me, so i don’t feel as weird wearing heels around him. but i did date a guy who was the same height as me and i never wore anything but flats with him. ;)

After the most amazing wedding day (10 days ago), now I’m wondering what to do with my wedding stuff. Flowergirl baskets, ringbearer pillow, hurricanes, jugs for punch, etiquette books, Just Married sign, table numbers, vases… Some stuff we can keep for future entertaining, but some stuff is wedding-specific. Should I give it to my friends who are planning weddings? Try to sell it?

sp - it’s not customary, but it is a wonderfully sweet gesture. planning a bridal shower is a lot of work after all.

hannah - it’s good enough for tom cruise! rock the heels! ;)

milka - sell everything (unless your friends want them). it’ll feel good to recoup some of the costs. and congrats on your recent wedding!!! :D

milka - i think you should keep the stuff you want, give away things your friends may need(or other to-be brides in the family) and sell the rest!

the four brides at work trade stuff all the time; it’s great because we don’t have to order (and then toss) 10 invitation catalogs.

Hannah - being 6′1… I completely understand. I dated lots of REALLY tall guys (6′5 - 7′1) so heels helped me out… but Mr. Lemon is 6′2. People have blindly told me to wear heels, but they don’t realize how strange it is to walk around being my height on a daily basis… let alone adding 3-4″ to that. :) I like being comfy with my FI, and if I wear heels I have to bend down to kiss him…and that’s REALLY weird for me. But if you love them heels - find a guy (short or tall) who likes you in them!

i’m 5′10″ and my husband is 5′6″ (maybe less, i dunno!) but it’s really not an issue for us. that said, our wedding pics do look a little “different”. :)

you should keep some of the stuff, but definitely sell the rest and/or give it away to your friends/family- it’ll clutter up your house otherwise! :)

Would a 9 year old flower girl be too old?

I have a question:
I have a question, and I’m not sure where to ask it¢¢â€š¬¦.
My BF & I have been invited to his cousin’s wedding. Its on Dec 30th at 3PM and their wedding website says ¢¢â€š¬…”semi-formal¢¢â€š¬?. HELP! What do we wear?! BF’s Mom says he wears a suit¢¢â€š¬¦ but what should I wear?
Also, am I wrong in saying that our everyday winter coats are not ¢¢â€š¬…”dressy¢¢â€š¬? enough? Would a pea coat be good? Also, are boots out? Not the snow or hiking variety, but knee high black leather? Tacky? or not?

Diva - I don’t think a 9 year old is too old at all! It’s a great way to include her.

Angie–the boots would have to be pretty dressy to work, and I’m not even positive they would then. I think you’d probably be safer w/ some nice closed-toe heels.

I think a pea coat would be just fine, also :-)

diva - a 9 y.o. flowergirl is fine - it all depends on what you want to do..if you wan to include her, you should! ;)

angie - i think nice tall leather boots can work..but depends on your outfit..i’ll stick with nice pumps to play it safe..maybe you can wear a nice top/skirt/pumps?
